Leaving my Samsung S3 but I want to thank you guys here for your help

I've had my Samsung S3 for over a year now and while it's been good to me I wanted to get a better upgraded phone to keep up with technology. I want to thank all the people on here who helped me set up my phone, root it, dive into custom ROMs when I had no idea how to do it myself and many other little questions along the way. I've been an Android user for a few years now but after reading a lot of reviews on phones I decided to go with an iPhone 3G S. I am trying to figure out how to transfer all my music from my S3 to this 3G S. When I bought it I thought it would be running iOS 7 but I csnt seem go get it to update. I even tried Samsung Kies to update my phone but it still wont update. Also when I got the phone it was freezing a bit so I tried to pop the back off to do a battery pull but the back seems to be screwed in and I can't remove it--very frustrating. I know this is an Android forum but do you have any helpful tips for me on this new device? Did I make a wise decision going to an iPhone because I feel like I'm having a lot of initial problems here. Thank you guys again for all your help you've given me!! I hope to get some last bit of help from you on thr issues I listed above before I go from here :)

Hi

Sorry to see you go..

The phone you have now 3GS is quite an old iphone model.(first release June 2009) The battery is not removeable AFAIK. I doubt it can run IOS7 - I think iOS 6 is the latest it can run. I would have thought the S3 is a "better" device, but then I'm biased! There is no point in trying to use anything but apple apps (itunes etc) with iPhones.

Hope it works out well!

Roger

An iPhone 3GS?

Hang on, is this an April fools? It's 6pm where I am so I'm well past all that :D

If you're being serious then you've taken quite a step back technologically speaking. The phone is about 5 years old and won't support iOS7 officially (and after seeing iOS7 run on an iPhone 4 I'm not sure you'd want to)

That iPhone 3GS is one of the finest phones ever made. I have two unlocked GSM ones sitting in my drawer. I am just waiting for the right time to pounce.

I was going to sell them on ebay, but when I saw how much they sell for, I figured they're more valuable than I remembered. Once I looked into them more, I understand why they sell for so much.

The only thing is, my daughters, now in college but in kindergarten when they got them, had no trouble figuring them out. I guess it's because I'm coming from Android, but I'm having similar issues to the OP. I can't for the life of me get my sd card (which has my music) into that dang 3GS slot.

Oh well, I have a couple of neighbors with 5 and 6 year old kids. I'll get them to help me. Maybe I'll give them the S3 for their time.

Lol yeah ive seen them and its crazy because the apk of flappy bird is forever online in cyberspace for anyone to download :)

iPhone 3GS? that is ok if you hate iOS 7 as much as i do (it won't get force-upgraded--the new tactic Apple is using to upgrade your newer models whether you choose to or not!) but it's not the most stable iPhone i've ever used. i came from iOS to Android (in fact, the Galaxy Tab 2 and later S3 came to my life after iOS 7 made me hate Apple entirely) and my first iPhone was a work-issued 3GS. it was really unstable. slow, non-retina screen, bad LCD backlight bleed, and constantly lost its 3G signal and would lock onto EDGE, which would for some reason be incapable of getting online with, it would only connect to the internet via 3G. had to reboot to fix it, and did that often.

the iPhone 4 and 4S were really the first times Apple got it right. at least IMO. they're stronger, better on battery, and had retina screens. they also didn't suffer the 'EDGE bug' like the 3GS did. i got the 3GS in 2010 when my boss decided my old Nokia 5185i's battery was going dead every time he tried calling me, so it was relatively new then. today, the battery will not last as long as you'd like, it will not support a lot of apps (if i am not mistaken, the App Store may have ceased to work on the 3GS by now?) and the last iOS version was 6, which is even slower on the thing than what i used ('iPhone OS 4')

And...i just missed the joke again didn't i? i HATE this damn holiday. Either way, if the S3 gets too old for you, i highly recommend the Note 3 as a proper upgrade. the S4 just doesn't cut it for me, it is just an upscale S3 with a better camera. side by side they look exactly alike. for the same off-contract price i can get a Note 3, which is a beast, and i'm still considering it later this year.
