Leaving the Desire...

After having the desire for over a year now I have bought the galaxy s2 and given the desire to my partner. I was going to wait for the Evo 3D but after looking at the glasses free 3D I was not very impressed. Just like to say thanks for all the support on the forum and i'll still be checking up every now and again.
I'm impressed so far with the SG2, seems like a great phone, no problems so far. :D

im debating with myself to leave Desire and get the SGSII - enjoy mate, its a cracking piece of tech!! :D

I have played with SGS2 today and thought it was not that different from SGS... :D

Sure SGS2 is probably the best phone at this moment, and it would be most likely my choice if I was buying now. There are however a few things that tell me to wait for Nexus 3. Here are a few buzzwords that confirm by belief: Tegra 3, NFC, higher resolution, OS updates continuity, etc...

Well considering you go a SGS2, that means you'll still be around ;) More in the SGS2 Forum of AF, but you can always drop by here to talk with your old buddies (or mates are you peeps over the pond call it)

Which vendor is Nexus 3?
Rumour around the net says it's LG.

When I move from my Desire I will of course spend more time in the forum of the new phone but I have met some awesome people here who have Desire's so i will still keep in touch :)

I'm not a fan of LG either... I like (from best to worst) - HTC, Samsung & Sony Ericsson, and maybe motorola lol

well people change, i got burned by samsung however they learned their lessong. LG are probably better for build quality than samsungs but they are new to droid and frankly i didnt understand why everyone was raging about the optimus 2x as it fealt laggier than my desire.

however android is a learning curve as much for the manufacturers and the users and it takes time for them to get it right. Especially as the android userbase has matured so we have grown to expect more from an interface or we make our own.

interface, power, marketing and rootability are the main factors of what makes the next android a killer droid. if one of those are wrong it gets overlooked.

I think LG could pull it off and tbh some of these manufacturers need a good wake up call

Hi everyone, I too have deserted the Desire, but I am still an avid Android fan and hence, I have move over to the Nexus S. So far I and one week in I am very impressed. I t does not give me any trouble with memory management. I know the diehards in this community giggle and point out that rooting is the solution to many problems witrh the Desire. Well, I am one of those lazy people who prefers to have a tool, be it a laptop, desktop or in this case a smartphone that simply does what it proports to do, ore as near as damnit possible. So rooting not - for me.

The reason I defected was a constant problem with the handset crashing when used in my car hooked up to bluetooth and running a 3rd party satnav software. I sent the Desire back to HTC for repair as it is still under warranty. So far the feedback is that they have "hard reset" it, well this is something I have done myself 3x time in a row without solving the problem. By the way, I am not knocking the desire at all, to the contrary, I have been very impressed overall by its build quality, the UI and the hardware in general. What has made me decide to move on was in essence what many hear seek to address by rooting. Alas, I am not dedicating mmy life to researching what rom to flash, how to root and so on.

Call me lazy. For me it matters what I can do with my smartphone without jumping through endless loops. Perhaps I am looking to find the holy grail of smartphones? Well, the Nexus S is by no means that but it is a good step closer in my humble opinion. I am now on GB 2.3.4 and I love the suttle differences. One app, which cames as stock, Googles "car home" is the best I have tried to date and does what I want it to do. I shall keep an eye on this forum as my wife still owns a Desire - sorry forgot to mention this :D. P.S. thanks to everyone for their support over recent months!

1 thing I have noticed is the speed of the internet is around 3 times faster. Not sure if its because I have gone from pay as you go to contract? I did a speed test while tethering on my desire with pay as you go sim and it came out at 2.4mbps, now with the SG2 on contract im getting 8+mbps

I've had my SG2 over a week now. Just thought I would say a few things about it. I think its a great phone and I'm impressed with it overall. I find it to be a lot quicker than the desire. I didnt notice it as much at first but when I use the desire now it seems sluggish compared. I do miss the build quality on the desire, it is rock solid compared to the SG2. The battery cover on the SG2 is even thinner than the desires, I don't like removing it in fear or wrecking it. As far as software, i've had no problems and I don't see why people moan about Touchwiz. Although the battery life is better than the desire its still not great. Apparently its because of a bug in Android 2.3.3 that drains the battery in dual core phones. I find android OS is using 40-60% of the battery most of the time. Hopefully this will be fixed in 2.3.4 so I am just waiting for an update.
