LED light not working

I have all the different notifications checked under settings / display/ LED notifications. Anyone else having this issue? I might have to return it to the store...

Does the LED light solid green/orange for charging? Notifications may not blink out when the charge cable is plugged in.

If it were me, I would try booting into Safe Mode and then running the notification LED diagnostic test prior to trying to return it.

Hopefully these processes have not changed from prior devices:
Safe Mode will run your phone with all 3rd party applications disabled, on a more clean configuration.

Ensure that Fast Boot is turned off in your Power Settings
Power the phone down and wait for it to be fully turned off for a minute or two
Power the phone back on
When you see the HTC Boot screen immediately press and hold down the 'volume down' hardware key on the right side of the phone. Hold it until the phone completes start up, and you see the words "Safe Mode" displayed in the lower left corner of your lock/home screen.

Then go into your phone dialer, like you are calling someone, and instead Dial *#*#3424#*#* (3424=DIAG) to access HTC's Diagnostic Test.
Press 'Accept' when prompted. Within this menu select 'LED Test', press the Run button, and then follow the on screen prompts.

To get out of Safe Mode simply power off and power on your phone as normal

If the LED works in Safe Mode, then you will want to take a look at your installed applications from Google Play, for a conflicting settings preference.

I did a factory reset and did not restore from backup, this solved the issue. Definitely an app or setting from my previous device causing the issue. Thanks for the feedback!

Sorry for the Noob question, but how I boot into stock recovery? Trying to factory reset this thing.

Lightflow is a common application that works well with Samsung and their LED's but does not function on most, but not all, HTC devices.
Any Samsungs of Christmas'-past in your recent history that you loaded Lightflow on? 'Play' may have pushed it to your One M8.

Someone with the M8 will have to verify, but typically pressing and holding 'Power On' and 'Volume Down' simultaneously until boot takes you into the boot loader. Recovery (of the stock variety) should be one of the options to select with the stated hard keys.

I had this happen as well, no notification lights. I found that for some reason the Verizon messaging app decided to make itself the default program and over rode all my settings. So....I was not getting any notifications. The only way I could verify that my LED was working was to plug it in. I went into the all apps and disabled the Verizon messaging app and low and behold....notifications and LED. Not sure if you were on Verizon or not.....hope this helps.

I had that on my device (EE UK) and I simply turned the phone off and on again and it has been working since.

Hi,
When I receive an SMS msg it flashes the camera LED which is really bright and not very subtle when in public.
How do I turn it off? I can't see the option anywhere, either in the phone settings or app settings, I'm using Chomp SMS as default message app.
Thanks!

Settings > My Device > Accessibility > Hearing > Flash Notification

Un-check Flash Notification.

Even if the flash notification box is not checked, check it once and un-check it again. It should solve your problem.

Thanks for suggestion but I don't have that option in settings, in accessibility there is no 'hearing' option. I've looked for it in other settings but can't find it.
I'm using a phone supplied by EE in the UK.
thanks

oooo....that sounds interesting - as i find having only 1 led color a bit limiting - is it possible to control what alerts the camera flash works for ?

thanks
dan

I don't know what can control it because I still can't find any reference to it in settings, so camera LED is still flashing (3 or 4 quick flashes) whenever I receive an SMS!

Any suggestions where I can turn it off?

Got go: Settings; Display and Gestures; Notification light

Ok, I just want to clarify based of your first post- Is this every time you get any notification, or only when you get a SMS notification. If you are sure it is only SMS and nothing else then at this point it's either a 3rd party app (since we have eliminated everything else) or something wrong with the phone that will require a factory reset

ive been finding that sometimes the notification led will stop flashing while notification is still active :/ ....not always...just sometimes - shame htc couldnt have splashed out a bit more cash for some decent led kit :( :D
...minor gripe i know - but i used this feature a lot on ol' s3 using lightflow to manage them - agree LF doesnt work on m8

cheers
