Root LeeDroid - experience so far

Yes I did and it did improve my screen capture shows I got to 2 days with moderate use in another thread after changing. That said I got that using the non call recording kernel Lee had as an option back when 3.0.3 was released. Since then he has included call recording in his kernels by default.

My only recommendation to try improve matters if you have a call recorder installed to try and improve matters would be to deny it superuser access via the SU app and then open Titanium and freeze the app, see if that helps and if not uninstall it in its frozen state as another option.

The only other things I can think of contributing to the further decrease is the increase in speaker output chewing a bit more, & the CodeAurora video encoders/decoders. It may very well have been an issue for 3.1.2 as in the latest release he has decreased the amount of boost on the speaker and reverted to stock htc encoders/decoders.

For me though, I appreciate the inclusion of the recording feature and as long as I'm able to get 24 hours out of each charge I'm happy.

[EDIT]Oh and the fact CPU output was increased to 1036mHz in 3.1.2 as in previous builds it was sticking at 998mHz which would undoubtedly chew more battery per cycle. Might be worth tinkering in SetCPU and decreasing yours to 998 see if you get the battery lasting longer and just increase back again for heavy usage if you get any lag.[/EDIT]

Again, thanks. It's actually been ok today, I usually hammer it at work and with Froyo at the end of a 12 hour shift, I could lose up to 80%. This morning, it came off charge just before I left at half 6 and I'm now at 50%. I'll give it a couple of days, see what it's like.

El P - plz let us know how you get on with radio flashing. Might risk it myself.

Maxy

No worries, I may not now though but if I do, I'll let you know.

If you're considering flashing a radio, I'd go about it with the P____.img method from here: [RADIO][LATEST: 26.09.04.11]The HTC Desire HD Radio Thread - xda-developers

I've done it three or four times using fastboot commands, but the method in that thread seems to have fewer steps that could go wrong in comparission.

Something that I don't quite understand is that the P____.img technique in that thread is recommended for stock based roms whilst fastboot is recommended for AOSP/CM roms. Whereas on the cyanogen website, they recommend P____.img for everybody.

Thats the same method that the Quick Flash Packages use but in a bit more user friendly manner. You can use any quick flash package to flash any radio so long as the radio.img file where you extract to is the one you want (not necessarily the one that came in the zip). I linked you to a QFP in your other rooting thread El P :D

So I went ahead and flashed 3.1.3 last night, as the updated ROM didn't materialise. I also put on the Sense 3.0 addon. Just flashed over the top of 3.1.2 (i.e. no wipe), and all runs very nice and smooth. I'm loving the battery icon in the pull-down bar, which is like stock but gives the actual percentage remaining as well. Means I don't have to put a widget on my homescreen any more.

LOL. I was going to wait, but in the end I thought that the new version due later today didn't add much. I'm going to try to resist the urge to update any ROMs for a bit, and try to optimise my battery life.

I promised myself I'd do that when I've flashed the new build however I know I won't be able to help myself in just the same way as when I promise to tap her on her head if one catches my drift ;)

I've just noticed that since I flash 3.1.3 I no longer get sms notifications. I read on XDA that it can be fixed by clearing the data on something or another but if the update is out by the time I get home from work I think I'll wait.

I think the Sense 3.0 addon also solves it, as well as adding a few bells and whistles.

Is the Sense 3.0 addon worth it? I use Go Launcher and Widgetlocker so the new animations and Lock screen would probably be lost on me. What is the new SMS app like?

I like the Sense 3.0 lockscreen and animations. I purchased Widget Locker a few months back, but after a while I got bored of it. Regarding the SMS app, quite like it. Organises messages in speech bubbles, and makes it easier to follow the thread of a conversation retrospectively. None of it is ground-breaking though - just a little bit more bling.

Maxy

Fair 'nuff. The bubbles are pretty subtle, but you're right - they are like that, so if it's not your bag ... Furthermore, I can imagine that the animations are a bit OTT for some.

El P, here's a screenshot of the sms app in 3.1.3

Like you I'm not sure I like the bubble look but it's not as bad as gosms when I tried that.

I haven't flashed the sense 3 addon yet but might have to do so I get sms notifications as they aren't working since 3.1.3

You beat me to it Pothers.;)

Hehe, cheers boys.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be so I might give it a whirl.

I'm looking at some of the other theme packs at the moment, some okish ones, but nothing that really grabs my fancy.

I use liveprofile and whatsapp a lot and they both look similar to that. I can stomach that screenshot. :D

Just to make double sure I've got this right (I think I've already asked somewhere but brain like sieve), To install the sense 3 pack I put the zip on my SD card, open rom manager and then Install rom from sd card. Or do I go reboot into recovery and install from there????.

Boot into recovery and do it from there :D

Sense 3 zip installed and have sms notifications back again. Quite like the Sense3 Lockscreen as well:)

Yeah - nice isn't it. Sadly, I found myself repeatedly turning the phone off and on to see the animation.

Quick Q for you folks. I've seen stuff on the XDA forums and in Lee's install notes about 'full wipe to ext4'. Kind of went over my head. Can anyone explain the potential risks and benefits?

The sole benefit from what I've gathered is speed and an increase in filesize support:ext4 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
