Root LeeDroid install problem!

D-U-R-X

turbo drinker
Just downloaded LeeDroid and did the MD5 checksum thingymajig... all ok, so I thought I'd be good to go.

  • Put the ZIP on my SD card and booted in to recovery.
  • Backed up (like a good boy)
  • Wiped data/factory reset (for a clean install)
  • Selected the LeeDroid ZIP on the SD card
  • Waited for it to do it's thing.

Got the white HTC screen, heard R2D2 and got the little green Android (made out of text) as I should... thought this was going great! Next thing that happened was that I just had the white HTC screen...

I could turn the scren on and off as if the phone was working and was getting the gingerbread animation that goes with turning off. If I held the power button down, I got the power off menu.

I tried to turn off and back on again, but was getting the same problem with the white HTC boot up screen.

I am more than prepared to admit that I could have done something wrong and, as such, will not be writing LeeDroid off, but all I can say is, thank god for CWM and backups!

If anyone would like to point out (point and laugh at) anything that I've done wrong, then fine... if someone could let me know why this appears not to have worked, I'd appreciate it!

Cheers!!

EDIT - should have done as per my signature... used my head and rooted responsibly...

After. But I dunno, it's pretty uncommon that a dev doesn't include a kernel.... Worth a shot though.

Did you try just repeating the process listed above? I don't see anything wrong with it...

The Leedroid ROM's definately comes with the Kernel, well all the ones I have downloaded have, inc the latest 3.2.1.

You haven't left any .img files ( From when you downgraded ) on your SD card have you

Could have done... guess that could well be the problem, although I would have thought that, as I've only told it to use the LeeDroid ZIP, it shouldn't make too much difference!!

Will mount as USB storage and have a look! :)

here's a list of "unknown" files on my SD card... please could you have a look through them and let me know if they're good to go:

hboot_check.nb0
hboot_eng.nb0
hboot_original.bin
M-IUI-Ca-m-era.1.4.22.apk (I know what this one is, from when I downloaded the apk, after complaining about CM7's camera)
part7backup-1304853287.bin
part17backup-1302811319.bin
vvm (this is actually a blank notepad file)

All of the above, except those with details in brackets) are next to a blank square... there is other stuff on there... folders and a few pdf files (that I know not to worry about)

I think that the "part17" one if from the downgrade process, but am not sure!

Did you check the MD5 of the downloaded file against the one in the thread?

Downloaded "HashCheck Shell Ext" from a link on Lee's site... double clicked the MD5 that I downloaded that had the same name as the ZIP I downloaded... it ran something and went green and said it was ok...

Can't see anything there that would cause a problem, in fact I have most on my SD card as well.

Might be worth re-downloading the zip from leedroids XDA thread or I downloaded it using rom manager and it worked ok. Just make sure you untick update notifications in the setting:rolleyes:

Yeah - didn't have this issue when I went on to CM7, so guess that none of the stuff on my SD card could be causing the issue.

When I got CM7, I did it through ROM Manager... will give it a go and let you know!!

Obviously, apart from the MIUI camera apk, is there anything else in that list that I can delete... I guess that none of it takes up too much room, but it's be nice to do a bit of cleaning if possible?

Just seen on your other thread, if the file had .part at the end then it didn't download correctly, I had that problem at the weekend! If you download it again it should be fine.

I just flashed 3.2.1 using rom manager, no problems so far and so easy!

Thanks for your info on this Amerie... it was actually whilst downloading that it said "blah blah.zip.part" (only when I put my mouse over the file as it was downloading).

In the process of getting it through ROM Manager at the moment... 89% and counting...

:D

Downloaded through ROM MAnager and on with installation now!

EDIT - the latest version of LeeDroid isn't just an update is it? Should I have installed an older version on the phone and then flashed this over the top should I?!??!?!

Just got this message:

Sorry
The Application TalkBack (process com.google.android.marvin.feedback) hs stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

With the force close button

EDIT EDIT... appears to be working DESPITE the above mentioned FC... asking me to select my language. Would like to know if anyone knows what the Force Close was all about?!?!

A quick google says that process is some sort of screen reading software called talkback.

It's been noted, here's what Lee had to say.

Nice one El P... that's great! Know I could have checked that myself, but have been getting stuck in to putting sense back to how I want it.

Quite impressed so far... Lee's done a really good job on it - looks quite tight.. better than stock Sense. Gonna get it to how I want and then maybe look at getting the Sense 3.0 all in one pack! :)

Nice one.

Now you've flashed, expect a new version tomorrow!

Don't think I'll be falling in love with LeeDroid just yet... it all seemed fine last night. Like the feel of it... very tight! Defo an inprovement over HTC's offering! I actually used Titanium to restore apps and data and, for some reason, it put my old wallpaper on (actually liked the LeeDroid one, but was too knackered to bother sorting it).

This morning I thought I'd change the wallpaper and reboot the phone... when I it did come back to life, I started getting loads (like about 7 or 8) force closes... and the phone kept booting itself!

I tried turning off and back on again, but to no avail... I've had to go back to CM7 via my backup... so at least I've got a working phone!

Oh well... might give it another go, but it's not been a great first experience on what could be, quite possibly, one of the better custom ROM's out there!

Did you format to EXT4 before flashing the ROM? Not sure if that would change anything though, since it's not mandatory, but optional.

I had 2 apps (poweramp and flikie) keep force closing without being able to be opened after I restored them with mybackup pro; but fixed that by just uninstalling/reinstalling those 2 apps.

When I wiped and installed, I saw that it was doing EXT4 itself... didn't think that I'd have to do it manually (although I did see something on Lee's website that was for flashing EXT4).
