Left Apple for Note 2 and need help with a few things

I left apple for reasons of a bland OS, so i decided for the Note 2 on AT&T.
1) how do i add peoples picture for their contact photo? i did it for fav but what about the rest, and why are they blank(pic) in my message part. id like 2 be able to see a photo beside the text message to help find easier.

2) i have multiple duplicates now in my contact list and dunno which ones to click for some people..

I am new to android so bare with me if this is a stupid question...thanks!

In contacts, select the contact, tap on the pencil icon (edit), tap on the photo and select. Or enable syncing with one of your social media platforms (Settings -> Accounts -> _____).

As for duplicates, in contacts, select contact, menu -> join.

when i tap the pencil icon it says something about sim card synching at bottom then disappears and nothing happens? hit the pencil icon again and it just says same message for a second and goes away

Try selecting a contact, then selecting the blank avatar by their name instead of the pencil. You should get a prompt asking from where you'd like to select the photo.

ive tried that to with no luck....i was able to do it thay way to my fav but no one else..and even the fav with pics dont show up in my messaging part??

Are your contacts on the sim, rather than on the phone or Google? With you saying you get the message that mentions the sim card, I'm thinking that the contacts are on the sim and I think there is possibly only so much you can do with sim contacts?

Quite possibly why you have duplicate contacts too if you've copied them from the sim to the phone? I had that when I got my first Android phone. I can only think, if the two previous things I've said are correct, then you are clicking and trying to edit the sim contact, rather than a contact on the phone?

I have some suggestions but, depends on the answers to the above questions :).
