Help Left the land of 4G

So, I live in the Dallas area and have decent 4G. I had to take a business trip to Boulder, CO. I turned my phone on after landing and the 1x symbol came up. I knew this would happen, but its still disconcerting to see it. Oh well.

Since your roaming on Sprint's network you shoulda loaded up the Galaxy S3 beta PRL so you get Sprint 3G when roaming

Thanks for that info. I've never actually flashed a prl onto any of my phones before. What thread talks about it. I know we have to use qpst (or some such) which I don't have on my computer currently. What prl would it be, and it can but used on the Motion even though you say it's for the S3?

You don't even need root to do it, but yea, it's simple.

Have you tried turning airplane mode on and off? That might help a bit with the signal.

It can be used on the Motion even though you say it's for the S3?

Yes it can be used on the motion it's like any other PRL it's just that they send special ones out to S3 owners because I guess to metro we're special . But I believe they include getting higher priority on the tower & then sprint 3G roaming.

Make sure it's the 9033 PRL though because that's the one that's supposed to have 3G roaming though

He's out in Sprint Extended Home Area(roaming territory) so other than the 9033 PRL they only have 1x roaming.

When i lose 4G i use fresh network app and it connects to the closest towers and there has been several times were i would get 4G back

That wouldn't work since he's not in a 4G area since he's not even in metro coverage

Gman is correct. Colorado isn't a MetroPCS area, so no matter how many times I refreshed I wouldn't get 4G back. I'm currently on what's called travel talk; I have talk and text, and some data.

Well, maybe I'm not on travel talk then. I'll have to take a look at Metros Web site after I get back to my room and can get on my computer.

You are right. I'm in Extended Home Area. It is free to all Metro customers, and provided talk and text. Some areas will have data, and some might not. Denver/Boulder happens to have data, but It's 1x.

Ok. I have experimented and here's what I came up with:

The first image shows the 1x symbol and a dl speed of .09Mbps. The second shows that I'm now getting EVDO (3G) and have a dl speed of .27Mbps. That is a 3x improvement over the the 1x and all I did was flash the 9033 prl to my phone. It worked like a charm. Thanks for the suggestion, Gman.
