Help Less storage available than there should be?

With my fairly new Motorola Droid RAZR M (<4 months old), I recently got a message that my internal data was full. I deleted a few apps to free up space but upon doing so I noticed I hadn't even used up very much space at all!

I am supposed to have 8G of internal storage but am only using about 1G- but under "available storage" it says I only have ~500MB free!?

Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

if you are rooted, you may wish to "debloat" and get an "apps to SD" app to free up memory. Very little usable internal memory on the xt907

Did you activate Back up Assistant when you got the phone?

That burns up a lot of your storage.

1) Do you have an sd card in it? If not get one and save pics, video, music to it.
2)Unless things have changed you can't "apps to sd card" with the M.
