Let's all boycott V-CAST Apps

some the OS would be dependent on but most it wouldnt know any different. There is a nice list that spells what files to remove and if it affects the OS in any way

Does it suck that they are putting more bloatware on? Yea

Can we do anything to stop them? No

Is your daily life really going to be affected by them adding this app? No

Are people complaining about Verizon updating our phone? Yes

Would people be complaining if they weren't updating our phone anymore? Yes

If you are seriously that upset over an update, perhaps you need to lighten up and go live a life outside of this forum and the internet. Also try having sex, that's real fun.

Seems a little hypocritical to me. I mean, if someone is outraged at Verizon for adding "bloatware" to the phone under the premise that the owner should decide what goes on a phone, then where is the outrage towards HTC adding HTC Sense to the phone? Sorry, HTC...I do love your product!!
This gets right back to my idea that a company should come up with customized phones...where you order your phone like you order your laptop now.

Here is the message I sent to Verizon along with the response that I received, which clearly shows how ill informed they are, seeing as he states that the Incredible is the only phone that they don't offer 2.2 for.

I just learned that you will be doing a maintenance upgrade on all HTC Droid Incredibles that will
preinstall VCast Apps on all the phones. As a paying
customer I am not happy that this is being forced on
me and feel as though I should have an option as to
whether or not I want these VCast apps preinstalled or
have the option to completely un install them from my
system. If I want the app on my phone then I can go
and download it myself.

Good Afternoon Mr. C,

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless via our website. My name is Mike and I received your email regarding the VCast updates that are include with the HTC Incredible software update that is coming up on 11/08/2010. I can certainly understand the importance of personalizing your phone and not have certain applications "forced" on your.

I will forward your comments to our Leadership Team, however the HTC Droid Incredible is the only Android based phone that we offer without the 2.2 software, which is what you will be receiving. Although the VCast Apps are included, there are other benefits that will greatly increase the functionality of your device. The updates will include:

+ Updated Flash

Root your phone and take it all off. Rooting with unrevoked is simple. If you do...backup everything in case you need to take your phone back to verizon

Are you saying that having Skype, CityID, AmazonMP3, Google Voice Search, etc. all running 24-7 has NO effect on battery life?

Really?

If you're that concerned about the battery life you can check your battery stats and see what percentage of the battery is be used. My display uses most of my battery, I removed all the bloatware but I doubt they don't even use 1% of your battery.

People get the wrong idea about the android OS...for example task killers. I will not go into that simply because they are useless on 2.2. As for your "boycott".....we all signed the service agreement, you have no say in what Verizon does...read the fine print. They call the shots, not you.

We'll soon be getting another "update" that will install, without our permission, more bloatware onto our phones. The title of this article sums up my feeling about it:
Droid Incredible getting V CAST Apps next week, whether you like it or not -- Engadget

I think the simple solution is to send a message to VZW that we won't tolerate it. On top of sending them emails, the BEST thing to do is simply not use this new app store. Don't even go there since it'll send traffic data to VZW. If no one uses it, VZW will be forced to cut their losses and focus on bringing their costs down instead. *gasp* I know.

Yes, we all know rooting will keep bloatware off the phone, but that doesn't fix the problem.

dude, dont open the app!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are freaking out over nothing.

yes, pretty much that is what i am saying. if you dont believe me you can easily research this fact as its been explained in many threads before

I can say with certainty, for my phone, that the battery life has increased since I got rid of the 24-7 running bloatware. Either way, I don't want that crap on my phone because I like things to be clean.

Wait...why does it say, "the HTC Droid Incredible is the only Android based phone that we offer without the 2.2 software, which is what you will be receiving"
um...last time I checked...we have 2.2

Also, the Moto Devour is still on 1.6, and the Ally and the Fascinate are still waiting on froyo.

Basically everything that guy wrote was wrong.

He's talking about the apps. If you look at an X, or a Droid 2, they all have these apps preinstalled. He's not that ******ed

The V-cast isn't that bad guys, I had it on my old phone, it just a place for you to get ringtones and maybe ringbacktones, may have been updated to include games by now, I swear some of you are ex hippies trying to "fight the man"... lol

I decided to go against the update. Installed virtuous which includes all the updates except for VCAST and Slacker. Also when I flashed the rom, it kept all my data working on the phone so there was no rebuilding my UI.

I'm completely sold on running a near stock version of Sense and getting updates from the developer. I mean he released this update October 19th, while the entire AF community was eagerly waiting for a behind the scenes OTA.

Verizon has openly stated, they like their walled garden and having an open sourced monster (android) was a big change to them. This is not really different to how they have acted in the past. Now that we have the option to bypass most of verizon's crapware through the power of root is enough for me to applaud them for not freaking out and wirelessy bricking phones. From a company that just a few years back ripped all phone UI's out and placed their own UI's in, this is a huge improvement to their company.

I do not have a choice. I have to boycott this crap ass bloatware. I just received the update, and the damn V-cast app won't even open. Thanks for more useless garbage VZW.

I downloaded this update to my Droid Incredible and it reset my phone to factory settings....everything I had, every setting, every message, is gone. I am beyond unhappy. And now this morning...I'm getting another "reminder" to install the update again. I have days of work ahead of me just to get it back to the way I "think it was.:( so sad.

I'm sorry for your loss of data. I took the OTA this AM and everything went as expected.

I installed it, then when I was told that it would use up my data minutes even if I only used wi-fi, I decided that I really didn't need to see what it was after all.
