Root Let's buy a developer!

If Drakaz did 98 percent of work (which I beleave he did) then solution is simple:

98% of collected funds to drakaz
2% to others

;)

Since drakaz is probably to busy with work, i quickly drop by to post his thoughts about this...

[ 09:57:24 ] <inFECT> drakaz: did you see the thread on androidforums about paying a dev?
[ 09:57:35 ] <drakaz> paying a dev ? for gaosp ?
[ 09:57:56 ] <drakaz> funny idea, you are serious ?
[ 10:02:07 ] <drakaz> i'm not sure buying a dev is a nice idea, it's better to find someone who already have a galaxy, then thanks him by donation or other
[ 10:02:55 ] <drakaz> btw, you do what you want, if it provide us some fresh patch :D

I believe Drakaz is right. Donations are the way to go IMO.

But with donations, isn't drakaz the only one getting money? (since people probably donate on drakaz.com for Gaosp)

Just saying.

I think/hope Drakaz would share any donations he received for GAOSP. I think when you donate you can include a note so if we say Thank you for GAOSP he will know that donation should be shared. Make sense?

Yeah, but we still don't know how to share it.

You can't really estimate the % of job you've done, in my opinion.

I like the bounty idea because it is objective. The one to reach a certain goal gets the pot.
The problem with it is that it encourages competition which might be too fierce (less cooperation, but more people competing).

Drakaz already has the tip jar and he is best to know how to divide amongst the developers. Tip him and he can sort out how to get it to the others. Easy.

This talk reminds me about an article on open-source development I read a while back. It went on about how money was NOT a good incentive for development. It's like the problem we have now. How to split the funds? Now, if this were a contest, it would be easy. Just give it all to the guy who finishes 2.x porting first! But, we want them all to work TOGETHER and as a software developer, let me tell you, it's a sensitive issue on how work is split up.

On one hand, you could just look at how much raw coding was done. But that ignores any testing work or analysis work done by others. To make matters worse, that kind of effort can't be measured. (it's difficult enough in an office where we see everyone else, but with an open-source team? forget it.)

Please don't put me down as a nay-sayer, but rather than paying a dev, are any of them in need of fiscal help? Or need more hardware or the like? It would be a lot easier to collect for something like another i7500, debug tools or the like instead. Heck, we could even fund their personal site, if that's what they want! ... But, I think you guys get my idea ?

Seems like Drakaz has problems with camera driver port. That could be thing for developer hire.

Lets hire someone to port camera driver (Eclair and Froyo)?
