Let's Talk Juicers!

I am in the market for a juicer. I have tried quite a few centifugal juicers that all end up breaking. Right now I have a juic man II that I bought from a coworker for 20 bucks and decided I wanted to get back into juicing - I realize it's a POS but for $20 I figured it could tide me over until I decide on something nicer. I haven't made juice for over a year, but while I had working units I simply loved juice, especially for breakfast (I am not a huge breakfast person).

What I am looking for is a masticator juicer. These seem to be the cream of the crop and can do leafy greens very well (the achilles heel of the centrifugal juicers). The problem is I don't know which to get. I don't want to buy something that breaks quickly. I would probably be using this on a daily or every other day basis, at least when fruits/veggies are in season/cheap.

I am leaning towards the omega 8003/8005 juicer. Seems like it does pretty well and from the vids I have seen it gets far more juice out of just about everything than any centrifugal I have tried.

Anyway, some recommendations would be nice along with pros and cons. For me, noise doesn't matter so much, but assembly/disassembly and cleanup are a pretty big deal. I don't mind multiple parts, as long as they are easy/intuitive to get back together. Dishwasher safe is certainly a plus, though not a necessity. Price is a concern, to some degree, although I would rather spend more money to get a longer lasting unit. Certainly yield matters too, but I wouldn't be wanting to spend twice the money for a 2% increase in yield, if you catch my drift.

Looking forward to your opinions!

Consumers reports seems to be a good thing to use when looking for stuff and dont know which one is the best for you.

I've had a Jack LaLane's. It was my first juicer. It's centrifugal, and frankly garbage IMO (not meant to offend anyone). It won't do leafy greens and grasses very well at all.

I look at consumer reports, but everyone seems to like the centrifugal juicers. IMO they are no good.

No offence taken, I've never used one. I'd just had reports they were very good.

I also did a lot of research on this. Haven't purchased one yet but the one I would definitely get is the Omega 8005. Best track record and a decent price.

^^^ That is what I am leaning towards. Would just love some input from someone that has one and uses it heavily. Apparently they come with a 5 year warranty on all moving parts too. Seems pretty decent.

I have heard good things about the Breville, though it is again centrifugal. AFAIK it is top of the line in the centrifugal category.

Still hoping to hear of someone who has used an Omega, or any other masticating juicer. They have a newer Omege VERT (I guess it stands for vertical) model that is $100 more than the 8005 model. It claims to have a higher yield and be easier to clean. As new as it is there are very few reviews on it, though they do provide a 30 day money back guarantee if you buy from their site.

EDIT: I guess this newer one is also approved for commercial use. I don't know how much is fancy verbage or actually legitimate statements.

even after reading this thread, I look at the title and think its about steroids lol.

now back on topic, id love some info on juicers too, I dont like eating fruit but i love making smoothies and juices!

Alright, so I decided on the Omega Vert 330HD

It's a vertical juicer that it more efficient and rated for commercial use. The "HD" version simply has a much more durable strainer than the regular version. People seem to like it.

Drugstore.com has it for $299.99 with free shipping. This is the cheapest I found it anywhere (by a minimum of $30 and most places charge for shipping on top of that).

On TOP OF THAT new customers get 15% off their entire order and still receive free shipping. That left my order at $254.99 no tax, no shipping. At that price it is about $130 off of MSRP and cheaper than eBay. The offer is only good through July 3rd!

Hopefully it is ok for me to post the coupon code below. If not please remove it mods.

If the link gets deleted, just type "drugstore.com coupon" into google and click on the "retailmenot" link. The 15% code should be the second choice.

Just out of curiosity; we're still safe to make our own Apple juice without getting sued, right?

The juicer arrived last week and we have been juicing daily (sometimes multiple times a day). As a recap, we got the VERT 330 HD. FOr those interested in this juicer, it is identical to the VERT 350 HD, except that the 250 is chrome/black while this one is white. I would have preferred the chromed one I think, but it wasn't available.

This juicer produces MUCH more juice than our old centrifuge juicer. So much more, that when I first juiced with it I had prepared too much fruits/veggies. I would say that this juicer extracts roughly twice the juice that our juiceman II does from the same amount of produce. I might due a side by side youtube video at some point to compare. The juice also needs no stirring, it is completely homogenous from the getgo, unlike the centrifuge juicers. Cleaning is also super easy. All it takes is a quick disassemly and a hot water rinse. I am sure there are those that would be annoyed at having to disassemble (it comes apart into five pieces to be separately rinsed), but it really is easy and fast (2-5 minutes). The footprint is also super small (about the size of a standard centrifuge juicer) which is wonderful in my book.

The one drawback is that you need to be changing things up when doing leafy greens. It extracts plenty of juice from said greens, but if all you re jamming in there is greens, it tends to get clogged. This might not be the case if you go slowly, but I found a handful of greens, followed by a carrot, or apple, or some other juicier produce keeps things flowing fine. I am not a fan of 100% green drinks, but for those who are take that into consideration. It might take far longer for you to produce juice since you can just keep loading it to the brim.

Overall this was a great investment, and at the price I am even happier. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in juicing. Don't waste your money on centrifuge juicers. Do it right and spend your money ONCE on an Omega.
