Help LG Esteem: android.process.acore

When attempting to use the phone, the message comes up: "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. [force quit]" Repeatedly, of course.

The phone, which is brand new, is owned by my mentally ill (but technically gifted) son.

Factory (hard) reset does not work. I consent to the reset, but nothing changes.

Root explorer claims that the phone is not rooted. My son claims, however, that he rooted it. We ran an unroot program on it, which did not seem to work.

I need a way to really wipe the hardware clean and start over.

"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." is usually caused by something corrupted in the contacts. Open your settings and go to applications and then at the top go to All and delete any data in all the apps that say anything regarding contacts. You will how ever lose all your contacts and their info.

An easy way to see if you are rooted is to open your app drawer and look for an app called SuperUser. If the app is not in your app drawer your most likely not rooted unless he rooted then ended up deleting the app.

Superuser appears among the apps, but root explorer claims that it is "a package installer" which has not been installed. I cannot figure out how to delete it.

I know this is a really stupid question, but where do I find the settings? On the iPhone I can, but I am not familiar with this device.

We did use the unrooter you reference; I will try it again.

I went through and deleted everything that looked like "contacts", but no change. Next, another run through unrooter, then try to root and THEN unroot. :) Thanks so much for the help!

Well, I rooted it then unrooted it; no change.

Is it possible that it really cannot be repaired? There is no damage to the hardware. At some point in its life it had no software, which was later installed. Could MetroPCS somehow wipe it clean? (They seem like such morons in the store....)

If the LGNPST and the PC recognizes the phone you have great possibilities to unbrick.

yes does bro it does recognize it but only when on charge mode thats the only way cuz it doesn't stay on

I'm really not good at this stuff, so I too would very much appreciate a run down on just exactly what to do with LGNPST once I get it. (I am learning, however!)

The only excuse I can offer is that *I* did not root this phone or whatever happened to it, it was my son who waded in over his head.
