Help LG G2 (d800) won't power on

Hi all, new to the forum, but I have a pretty significant problem on my LG G2 that I'm hoping to fix without a hard reboot.

So here's the scenario: May not be connected, but I was having issues with Spotify randomly shutting off wifi (it was working fine with other apps) rebooted 3-4 times in about an hour. Finally disconnected my wifi, and "forgot" the network, linked back up with code and worked fine.

Later, I was using the G2 while charging, and suddenly screen paused several times, then went black.
Double-touch, nothing. Power button, nothing. Download mode, nothing. Plug in charger, still nothing.
After fiddling with positions, shaking it a little, the LG logo popped up, but then went dark again.
Since then, I have not seen anything happen.
Phone does not get warm when plugged in either. Needless to say, led lights don't do anything either.

Any ideas?

I'd say a hard reboot would be a gift at this point. Since it snapped back to life when shaking, then went bad again, I'd guess a hardware issue. Only recommendation if its out of warranty would be to remove the back cover and check all the ribbon cables specifically the one that connects the mobo to the battery. But it could be anything. There are tons of g2 disassembly videos out there.

OK, purchased off warranty, so I have nothing to loose by opening it up. Just don't have the proper tools, but I'll manage.
I might visit a mobile repair shop to see if I can borrow some tools!

Well if everything is reconnected properly, then there may be nothing you can do honestly other than guess what caused the failure and try to start replacing parts but that can get more expensive than this phone is worth. What is the date on the battery? If you were going to try and change anything, I'd guess the battery would be the least expensive option to try.

Should have written down the date I guess! I purchased the phone from someone who had purchased it refurbished for a relative, they turned it on once or twice, didn't like it. I bought it, and have been using it without any issues for about 6 months.

My daughter and I both had the LG G2 and both of them have done the very same thing as what Starlingmansam described. My daughter's went first. She was on her phone and it just shut down. She of course googled and someone advising try to do a hard reset. She tried to do a recovery but you couldn't get it to stay on long enough. It would show the LG and then shut down. Mine went about 2 months later. Plugged it in to charge before I went to bed and when I got up it wouldn't do anything. It would do the LG then the AT&T logo and shut down. I DID replace the battery in mine and it is NOT the battery. I am thinking this is a problem with the mainboard itself. I am so lost without that phone!! Both of our phones were like they were when they came from the factory. Not rooted or anything. I would love to know if anyone else got this working.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but have the same problem with my LG-G2 phone. I've have my D800 for 16 months now, with NO problems...until 2 days ago. I simply pulled the phone out of my coat pocket, and it was dead & would not turn on. After about 20-30 attempts to turn it back on, all I got was the LG logo & it would just shut back down. While waiting at the local Cell Service Center, ( and after MANY more attempts to turn it on), it came on and functioned normally. The service guy suggested my battery may have a problem & to bring it back if it happened again. I used it for about and hour & was trying to back it up on my PC ( to save my Pics & Contacts) & I got an error sayin the format was wrong, or the pics were corrupted....then the phone died. After about 10 min of trying to re-start it, it came back up & was fully functional. I immediately got a call that lasted about 9-10 min & the instant the person ended the call...the phone died. Then, after many more attempts to turn it on, it came back & ran fine for about 5-7 min & dies. That's where it is right now. I can get it to boot up & it lasts for about 5 to 10 min max, before it shuts down - it the middle of what ever I was doing.

I've been checking many Forums & Blogs and have read about numerous people with the same problem - and NO fix yet.

The service guy just called & they tried everything...new battery, reset cables, etc..., and NO change. It comes up and works for 5 to 8 min & shuts down. They are going to try to put the mother board through a "cooker/cleaner" (like they would for a phone that got wet, even though my phone was very clean & did not get wet) . I'll get it back tomorrow & let you know if that worked.

Well, my repair shop didn't get to do that "cooker/cleaner" process like they said, so they plan to do it on Mon & I'll get it back by Tues. They also plan to reload all android SW. I'll keep you informed.

This seems to be the trend with the LG G2. There doesn't seem to be an answer for this issue. I have seen so many people with this problem. My phone was very well taken care of. Looks like it just came out of the box. I plugged my phone in before I went to bed and when I went to use it the next morning it was doing all the symptoms yours had. My daughter had the same phone and hers did it appx 2 months before mine did. I tried a new battery and it did not help. I don't think there is an answer on this but I believe it is definitely is a flaw with LG. Keep us posted.

OK, the battery replacement was not the problem, and Wireless Toyz told me the only thing left would be that the Power Management System chip was damaged. It's only repairable by LG, but replacing the motherboard will do the trick.
He gave me the number to Communication Depot, to ask if they would replace it on the LG.

When I called over, Alex picked up and told me he was pretty sure the Power Management System had nothing to do with it. He told me to bring it by.
I brought the phone to Communication Depot (2629 Cherokee St, St. Louis, MO 63118) to have it analyzed for free, and within ten minutes, Alex, had an answer for me.

Apparently, because I had been using the phone while charging a lot of the time, I had heated and damaged a chip that holds the operating system.
Although this wasn't much better than replacing the board in that I lost most information (only kept contacts used in past 30 days), it cost $50 vs. $90 for the mother board.
It only took him about half an hour to replace for a total wait of about 40 min.

Phone is now rooted, and I got a free update to KitKat (I had the original Jelly Bean)

If you live near St. Louis, go see the guys at Comm Depot. They know their stuff!

Thanks so much for keeping us updated with this! Sounds like you got lucky finding someone to fix your phone. I am so glad you got it fixed. I will say that I did not use my phone while charging it. I only charged my phone at night when I went to bed. I am thinking some of the cases for these phones probably don't help with the phone getting hot.

I am southeast of Pittsburgh, PA and just have no idea who to take my phone to. The LG website seems to be down and I cannot find a repair shop for my area. Everything I look up seems to be for iphones of course. I sure miss my phone! I have yet to purchase a replacement phone yet. I am using an old phone at the moment.

The one that was causing the notorious power up issue..also real quick...a were you having a phone microphone issue as well?....I'm only able to use Mic on either earphones or bt....p.i.t.a. and.I'm stuck with this nexus 6 google os and I can't stand it.

Just reading over my post, it was the chip that holds the operating system. I automatically got Kit Kat with the new chip, consequently.
I'm not sure if this means it contains the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as well, but that's what I gather.
I will check in with Comm Depot and see what the part name and number is.
