LG G3 Accessories Thread

Got the car dock from ebay last night. Despite being shipped from Korea, still got here relatively fast. It is probably the nicest feeling Qi car dock.

I had purchased the LG Circle Qi Charger from Ice Monkey for $20 (no longer available, from what I saw).

The LG Circle chargers are typically $30-50, depending on where you buy. There's one on ebay right now, that would be similar price to the Ice Monkey deal:

Hello all!

I'm coming from a Droid Bionic, so this is a huge upgrade for me and with huge upgrades comes the accessories.

I purchased the Spigen Tempered Glass.TR Nano screen protector along with the Hybrid case with clear back (Amazon had a combo deal so the SP was only $25 while the case was $9). I also bought the holster combo from Seidio (again Amazon had it on sale for $35).

As a warning for people, the Seidio case is too tight with the screen protector on and will lift it off. So once I was able to remove the case and get the air bubbles out, I put the clear back on it and it actually fits perfectly with the holster! The rubber bumpers on the side of the case make it a little tighter in the holster and more secure in the process, so it was a win-win for me.

Thanks, I'm looking for a good car mount but I haven't really found a form factor that works for me and my car. I kind of like the Air Dock with the CD tray mount but I'm afraid it might damage the trim or get in the way of controls or my LCD (I've got a Volvo S60, fwiw). I don't like suction mounts because they obstruct my view and are too far away.

I think I may go with a proclip mount once they have a holder for the G3. They have a couple options that clip to the dash I just need to get in my car and decide if the placements will work.

A Gawker site polled commenters for suggestions for the best mount so I've been looking at the suggestions there. It seems car docks are like mousetraps; there's a million designs and they all suck. Some of them are total monstrosities.

What's The Best Smartphone Car Mount?

You don't need to use ProClip's holder. I only use their base mounts. IMO, their holders are kinda ugly. You can go with a ProClip base mount (specific to your car) and then get a AMPS garmin mount, which will work with the LG mount I posted (and many others). The other "universal" type of connecter is Richter, which is either 1, 2 or 4 prongs. They have AMPS mounts for Richter as well. AMPS is the flat portion of a connector that can be screwed into the ProClip base.

Yeah, I agree about the ProClip holders but their mounts seem pretty good, lots of placement options available.

What I'd really like is to have a Qi charger attached to the mount securing the phone with magnets like the Air Dock, I just don't really like their mounts. I wonder if they are identical to Garmin mounts. I have a Garmin bean bag mount which is pretty nice, so if their dock would fit on that I could just order the basic kit and use my bean bag instead.

I highly vouch for their mounts. If you had asked me a couple years back, I would've said otherwise, but now...can't imagine having a car without one! That's just referring to the base mount.

The closest Qi charager to that is the one with suction cups.

What I have is a Proclip base mount (e.g. dashboard) and then a Richter AMPS connector screwed into the proclip, with a Qi charger connected. What's awesome about the Proclip base is that you dont' have to take your dash apart or do anything fancy to install. They designed the base mounts to use the crevices on the car, to provide "ideal" mounting areas. Works awesome.

Based on what you mentioned, here is a helpful guide (and for those that want to accomplish getting set up exactly as you want, feel free to PM me and I can definitely guide you towards not wasting money on something you won't like):

1) Proclip Dashboard Mount (e.g. base mount)

2A) Garmin Ball-joint AMPS Adapter Plate

or

2B) Richter AMPS mounting plate

3A) Car Mount Suction Qi Charger - Uses Richter connector

or

3B) Car Mount Qi Charger adjustable height and width - Uses Richter

or

3C) Car Mount Qi Charger with non-adjustable height - Uses Richter

or

3D) Car Mount Qi Charger with adjustable width and height - Uses Richter (This is what I have, but it was the only one on the market at the time

or

3E) Car Mount Qi Charger with sticky connector - Base can be stuck to a ProClip base mount or for those that don't mind doing it, directly on an area on the dash (but I wouldn't recommend that option)

or

3E) The LG setup uses Garmin LG Mount only

I think that's worth it, personally, but that's just me (since I'm obsessed with wireless charging now).

That said, cellphone-parts is selling the Gold cover for 4X's the price that I paid! I should have bought more, if people are actually paying that price.

I think they do that so they can keep current listings going instead of creating a new one. If you search, they actually have two listings at all times, one normally priced and the other inflated. Due to shipping times listed, I think the high price listing comes down tomorrow and the low price goes up.

Edit - Well the above was partly incorrect lol, but I believe the price of the gold will come down when they get more stock. The $134.99 price has happened before and came down later. Either way, it's more convenient to keep using a current listing than is to create a new one.

Love having the mount in my CD Player. It stays locked in and doesn't budge. Great mount.

I understand in some cars it might block some controls to the point where it's a dealbreaker for some.

Yeah, seller was great with communication and refund. No re-stocking fee for me, since they had stocking issues anyway. Refund processed almost immediately.

Thing is, for those of you that wanted a non-Verizon branded cover, they have it for a really good price ($27.94 shipped is practically a steal...keep in mind tax, for those of you in CA, like myself):
