Help LG G4 Texting Problem

Jon L

Lurker
I got a Verizon LG G4 a couple of weeks ago, and I frequently have problems sending text messages. Often, I get the "sending" message that says that for a long time, and people don't get texts until some random time. Last mssg I sent, people received it like an hour later. I have noticed that these people tend to have iPhone 6/6+. I thought maybe it's Verizon having issues with other carriers, but I tested it with somebody with ATT android phone, and text was sent fine and received back fine.

Initially I thought maybe it's got something to do with WiFi settings as I recall reading some phone/carrier combo's have problems (mostly) receiving texts (MMS) when WiFi is connected. But I could swear I actually turned ON the Wifi one time and had a bunch of old texts were received at the same time. This didn't hold up later when my texts kept saying "sent," as when Wifi was turned on (or then to off), texts still did not go out.

Any ideas about this problem? Verizon issue, stock text software issue, or just have average telephone signal (2 out of 5 bars)? Any better texting app with less issues out there?

IIRC iphones use a proprietary text message format. Don't know if they could download a messaging app that works with android?

I can't seem to get rid of the phantom "I'm Driving - Sent" message that auto-replies to people when I am actually driving. I have disabled the the stock verizon messenger that came with the G4, disabled the Nissan app, and it went away for two days. This morning, it started auto-replying again with the aforementioned 'I'm Driving' mssg while I was on the road. I double-checked my apps and the Verizon messaging app is still gone. FYI that I am using the 'Textra' app and nowhere in it's settings do I see driving auto-replies as an option.

Can anyone help with this conundrum? Or am I destined to be like Phoebe and her fire alarm?

ANYONE? The problem is still happening and it seems utterly ridiculous that this cutting edge phone that's supposedly better than the Samsung can have such an unsolvable minor bug.

I just checked and I don't even have smart settings on my phone, WTF? All I have under "device" is 'smart cleaning, application manager, and dual window.'

Other articles I read for the G4 suggested going to Settings -> General. Umm, I don't even have a F***ing 'General' tab under settings. Is this possible? How can they write directions for tabs that don't even exist?

An easy way to handle you settings (1st) when you go into settings in the upper right there are the 3 dots; tap on that and choose List View. Easier to find stuff. Under device there should be: Sound & Notification; Display; Home Screen; Lock Screen; Smart Settings; Storage; Battery & power saving; Smart Cleaning; apps; default messaging app and dual window.

After "Lock Screen" my next option is "Storage"

'Smart Settings' are not listed, but i do see it is a free app I can download. Did you have to download yours?

No mine was right on phone. Ahh, just reread and saw you're Verizon. That's the difference I'm AT&T. Verizon disabled and omitted some of the different apps. :(

Are you using a car dock? Have you disabled the stock LG messaging app? Just a shot in the dark, that maybe its something to do with the function of a car dock and LG messaging app working together? The lack of settings in the VZW variant is very off setting.
