Help LG GT540 problem!!!

Ok so after a lot of trouble I finally managed to upgrade my GT540 from 1.6 to 2.1 (version 1). Took a few attempts to do & finally it said complete!! Cue very happy face on me!!

However when I turned the phone on it took 30 secs to light up, then a further 30 secs until it finally asks me to choose a language & time date setting etc. Then it asked me for my PIN number to unlock the handset. I entered it & was greeted with 2 pop ups sayign the following had stopped working

com.google.gapps
com.android phone

I forced the close but then it asked me for my PIN again, once entered it again said about the 2 programmes had stopped working, then asked me for my PIN well I think you know where Im going here....

Can anyone please help me?? Im at my wits end here!!!

I've found it's best to do a hard reset after upgrading.

Take the SIM out then press the volume up button, the home button and the search button and hold them for about 5 secs

Phone will display " Are you sure you want to factory reset?" on the screen, hit Yes and wait for the phone to restart.

The first boot after a full reset takes a while to complete but it will get there eventually. This will delete all the data on the phone so I assume you did the backup before updating.
