No you can't use a usb cord as an hdmi cable, check on eBay and check if they sell the cable

they sell the cable but the phone must have mhl support in order for it to work im not sure if it does or not the manual has no info on it im trying to see if this works before i buy the cable

I know it's been many months since anyone posted on this thread but I tried the PNY micro USB to HDMI adapter and I can't get it to work with my Hitachi smart tv at all. My phone is rooted and I've tried a few different apps and even tried going into the LG service menu and changing the hdmi options there and nothing works. If anyone has got it working I'd love to know how.

It doesn't work and probably won't until a way is found to unlock the boot loader.

The LG motion 4G does not have MHL. At least that's what I see when I check using this page:
