LG Motion 4G

I ordered my LG Motion 4G from Wirefly last week for my Father and myself and it arrived today. I went into my local Metro PCS store to activate it on the $30 promo plan for 256 MB. I will upgrade if I feel the need to but being throttled back to 3G is better than the lousy 1x lol.

I have read so many positive reviews and watched reviews online and love the phone. So far its a joy to use. It puts my old Samsung Freeform III and IPOD Touch to shame.

Since I have been using Google for a long time I am more familiar with their apps over Apple. I have been using Chrome since 2008, Google Docs since 2009 and Google Voice since 2009. I was part of Grand Central since 1999 and then got switched to Google Voice as one of their first users.

I love the style of the phone. The Qualcom Snapdragon S3 along with Dolby Mobile Audio and other features for $130 seems too good to be true.

The battery life is amazing even after charging it last night until it was full I still have 50 percent and used it a lot today.

I saw my Brother's old HTC running Gingerbread and had to get a hold of an Android but decided to wait. I am sure glad I waited as ICS really made strides over Gingerbread. We switched from Verizon to Metro.

I look forward to the T-Mobile merger as this should enhance the service with more towers. Its refreshing to hear that our plans should stay the same.

This LG Motion has a perfect screen size and I can read the text without a problem. It feels great in my pocket and I love how the screen locks without it being so sensitive to my touch with regards to pocket dialing. For some reason the Samsung would just turn on with the slightest touch.

I have my homework cut out and will begin to browse the forum learning about the LG Motion and ask questions should they arise.

Thanks in advance for any tips you may offer. I will gladly offer you any help that I can give you. My specialty is Assitive Technology and I can help users that are visually impaired etc.

Have a Happy Holiday Season.

Cheers,

Daniel

Welcome to the forums, Daniel.
Any question you have feel free to ask.
This community is very helpful.
Btw, its an s4 snapdragon chip set powering this little beast.:)

Welcome to the forums Daniel :D
Feel free to ask anything, we will all help to the best of our knowledge with any questions you have. And feel free to contribute as you please.

I don't own a Motion, yet I have and will contribute as much as I know.

By the way, I have a brother named Daniel :p

You talked about how your FreeForm III would pocket dial. My brother calls it "butt dial", lol! Yeah I had a FreeForm II and it would do the same annoying thing, even worse when I would accidentally dial 911!

I did somehow pocket dial with my Motion yesterday, probably because I didn't have it locked before putting it in my pocket. Normally though a smartphone shouldn't pocket dial very easily.

Welcome to the forums. :D

I'll also say welcome i guess :)

Glad to hear another satisfied motion user, i also agree with everything you say.
Altough a 4.3" screen would have made this phone perfect.

Welcome! I couldn't stand my Samsung FreeFAIL (the original, or the FreeFail II) and I don't care for Apple either. I've been with Android since Eclair (2.1) and agree that ICS is the best yet... although I ain't ever played with Honeycomb or JB yet... anyhow, we're all here to help, and help is appreciated in return. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome . I got my Motion activated today and am loving it. I went with the $30 plan for now since I'm not a heavy heavy web user on the phone but am glad it will go back to 3G speeds after the 256 megs are used.

I'm still laughing at the people on Verizon who pay a lot more for calls, text and data. Metro really does a good job with their services.

When I went to the Metro store yesterday for my phone and today for my Father's phone the nice employee took a good hour with my phone and 30 minutes with my Father's phone helping me to set it up. She was really nice and not upset at all with the questions I had.

I did not mind paying the fees to switch phones+$10 to keep the promotion. $30 for text, talx, web, picture messaging is the best deal in town.

With Verizon we sometimes paid $100 and this was for 3 phones for 700 shared minutes and this was without internet, texting and data.

I am not afraid to go over the 256 MB allotment as I know I can still go to 3G and not pay $10 per GB. When Tmobile and Metro finally merge I will make the decision if I need more data.

With Easy WiFi I am able to use the free wifi hotspots and I Google"Free WiFi" and then switch to WiFi if I want to stream.

For e-mail.driving directions, public transit info then using the MetroWeb is the way to go.

If I am not mistaken we can use our Motion in Europe once LTE is activated as TMobile is prevalent in Europe.

Thanks again and I will ask questions as time goes on. I am more than happy to assist you should you have any questions.

Just some quick tips for you Metro's wifi app is crap, android's built in wifi is way better. Also try downloading a browser like opera.

Yeah I discovered this the hard way. I kept wondering why it was so difficult sometimes to connect to Wifi when the whole time it was that stupid app making it harder than it should be.

Note that if you hit the data cap, your speeds will drop back to whatever CDMA network is available. This will be 3G IF there is 3g service available in your location, otherwise it will be 2G/1x.

You can switch to 3G from the hidden menu

Not if there is no 3G service available where you are. Metro does not have universal 3G coverage in all areas.
I know but not all areas with 3G are throttled to 3G speeds some are throttled to around 170kbps & that's not 3G speeds in my area i get 1300kbps on 3G in my area

I've had this Smart Phone for over a month now and it is the best "Bang for your Buck" 4GLTE Phone on the market IMO

I was an iPhone user for the past few years and was paying $80.00 a month.

Once my last 2-year contract was up, I started looking for an alternative.

The LG Motion came out a few months before and after doing my research, it looked liked this phone would be a fantastic bargain.

I have WiFi at Home and at Work, so I'm not a heavy Data user so I also opted for the $30.00 per month plan.

I used 200 MB of Data the first month I had the phone, mostly using the Ookla Speed Test app to test my 4G speed.

Other than that, this phone works great. I also added an old Micro SD chip I had laying around and it works fine even though I believe it is a slower Class 4 Chip.

I might Root the phone, but it seems like until there are GUI customization options that I'm not aware of, I don't think I will root the phone as it seems that I can disable most of the bloatware, which I have done.

BTW, where is the 3G Hidden Option that Gman9831 mentions above in Post #13?
