No question is a stupid question.

Yes it has been said from Lg that the Optimus line will be upgraded to the Gingerbread Android OS. You would have to upgrade your phone to receive this OS when it becomes available.

So will we be able to upgrade are phones via LGs phone updater program from the site? Or will we have to buy new phones?

Well it appears my Mom lied to me when she said there is no such thing as a dumb question. of course you won't have have to buy a new phone. It'll be an ota in the lg updater.

Wait till Ice Cream Sandwich comes out in the summer. :D

I'm fairly sure our phone will not qualify for that upgrade. "Gingerbread" (2.3) runs on comparable specs as "Frozen Yogurt" aka "Froyo" (2.2) -- which came with our phone. That's do-able and LG has promised us that, at some unspecified point in time.

After that is "Honeycomb", THEN "Ice Cream Sandwich".

so, that's THREE upgrades away.

Ice Cream Sandwich will take at least 1GHz CPU. At least.

I thought honeycomb was just for tablets. I also heard ice-cream sandwich was 2.4. (not like we'll get either of those anyway)

No honeycomb is the first version of android os made specifically for tablets. The optimus m will probably only see these two upgrades through custom overclocked (highly emphasize the overclock) roms. Lg was trying to not give it's users gingerbread at first before they even saw it's specs. But ..... people weren't buying that so they quickly said it was a mistake tweet.
