LG Optimus M - Does it support flash? What's the official memo?

Hello everyone,

I'm contemplating switching over to Metro PCS and signing up for the $50/month plan. The one phone that seems to stand out in their entire lineup is the LG Optimus M. However, a potential deal-breaker is what I've read so far in a couple of threads concerning lack of flash support for ARMv6 processors such as the one that are packaged in the Optimus M.

So my question is, what exactly is the situation on flash support for the Optimus M? I've also heard of people who were able to load up flash videos and images using Skyfire browser and Dolphin browser. Can any Optimus M owners shed some light on this issue? Are there any updates or workarounds?

My friend has told me that not having flash functionality basically means your phone feels like it can only access 30% of the web.

I can't contemplate spending good money for a phone and plan if that's the case! I apologize in advance for asking this question as the other threads that discuss this issue contain mixed responses and I'd like to have a full understanding of what exactly is going on. My friend tells me that Youtube's mobile site doesn't require flash functionality, hence his accursed Blackberry's Storm's ability to run videos on that site despite lack of flash support.

P.S. Can any Metro PCS smartphone owners in the SF/Norcal area tell me about their internet webpage load speeds? I hear Metro PCS uses 2.5G and that it's not the fastest around.

I live in the East Bay and I try not to use any internet heavy apps or the browser unless I have at least three bars. When at my house or my parents house with wifi it's a beautiful thing but metro's speeds have never been the greatest. They are supposed to be bringing out some 4G android phones around February so if you don't have wifi access readily available you might want to wait till then. Can't really complain though when you factor in how much you actually pay for the service. I have a bunch of friends with iphones and they are constantly searching for wifi hotspots too, and they pay around $80-90 a month for what I get for $50!

I'm not expecting their 4G phones to be cheap. The Samsung Craft is currently going for $299.00.

it all depends on the phone.

metro is not trying to make money on the phones and sell them to you at higher prices for the phone doing more. All metro cares about is you paying your monthly bill every month.

The phones are sold for pretty much the amount that the manufacturer charges(maybe a few bucks more).

Ok, but has anyone found a fix for the no-flash gimping?

there is curently no fix for the flash 10.1 the only way supposedly flash 10.1 will work is with phones that have 1ghz processor. im currently working on finding a custom rom so i can overclock to 1ghz if the phone will run at 1ghz then it should run flash 10.1 ofcourse the phone has to be rooted and youll need set cpu. also i wasnt completely happy with the skyfire flash only because for whatever reason it still wont find some flash videos that i know for fact are there and work fine. back to the overclock i do know there is a custom rom for the optimus t for tmobile and ive seen people run it at 850 but i dont know if they are running it at 850 because the phone wont run at 1ghz or they just have some other reason. another thing i would like to say im very happy with the phone however im not happy with lg. the phone was released with a paper flyer directly from lg that stated the phone would run flash 10.1 it was very specific. i called lg to find out if they would do anything about this since they advertised that the phone would run it. the responses where at best rude and im not gonna go into detail but lg blames metro and metro blames lg. my opinion is its completely lg at fault the phone was acctually supposed to be released with arm 7 instead of 6 so the only reason it wont run it is hardware and i cant see how metro has anything to do with that.something else to touch on metro is atleast in my area and most 2g internet speed, its pretty slow but im good with it i use wifi alot works great. when they expand 4g it still wont be 3g in those areas cause the two are totally diff technologies so ull never have 3g. i believe there are a very limited few areas like detroit maybe la and ny that have 3g but i dont think they plan expanding 3g moving directly to 4g lte. i also have barnacle wifi teather on my phone say for emergencies where id like to use my laptop and its prolly about like dial up speed when i use it for my laptop.
