Help LG Optimus M question

Hello I have the LG Optimus M for Metro pcs. i noticed that sometimes that if i am in a call and try to hang up the screen would be black but the buttons would light up blue. or if i press a button they would light up blue but the screen would remain black. i would have to remove the battery which is a pain sometimes being that i have nails. but its fine once i remove the battery and power on phone. this happens once in a while. does anyone else have this problem? and what causes it?

I used to have this problem when I first got the phone I think. I haven't noticed the problem ever since I rooted the phone and/or put a custom ROM on the phone. If you don't want to do that, than perhaps getting the latest update from LG would help you out. The newest version is 2.2.2 (I'm not sure which version your phone is).

And if you don't want to do any of this, go and complain to the MetroPCS peeps (preferably a corporate office).

Its a lock screen glitch. It happens even when your not in a call but mostly while music is running. Since i updated to 2.2.2. it only happened to me a few times. Hasnt happened in weeks now though

hey it says i have 2.2. also one morning i woke up to find my phone off and so i had to power it back on . if i hadnt noticed phone was off i would have slept in.

so you would've stayed asleep . . . if you didn't wake up? good thing.
my wife worries about the same thing, as her phone is pretty crappy and spontaneously shuts off. my simple solution is to get an actual dedicated alarm clock.

but for your case, my original suggestions remain true. Best way would be to root, put custom recovery and custom ROM on phone. But if you'd rather not go through that, simply do the LG update via the LGupdateUtility found on the LG website.

The phone has a proximity sensor at the upper left, next to the speaker. It's supposed to blank the screen during a call while you have it next to your ear, then turn it back on when you put the phone down. Perhaps the sensor or the driver for it is malfunctioning.

You have to be careful what kind of screen protector you get.

Some of them have a small hole where is the proximity sensor is. With these you will have no problems.

However there are other screen protectors which have no hole, and the plastic covers the sensor. Do not get one like this you will have major issues.

This is very true. When I got my phone from MetroPCS I bought a soft case that came with a screen protector, and I saw that it didn't have the opening so I never used it. For a long time I just left the factory plastic protector on the screen (which had the hole of course) and only recently replaced it with a Zagg shield, which also has the hole.
The sensor operates ultrasonically and anything that covers that area of the screen may interfere with its operation.
