Root LG optimus Rooting Issues HELP!!!!

I have an Optimus T P509 with 2.2.2 on it. I'm using gingerbreak v1.2 (which I saw was the one I should use for my 2.2.2) and when i hit "Root". How long does this take? I am now on my first hour and it is still going. I also saw that I needed gui.apk and a gapps file if I wanted to use a different rom. Is this necessary if i am not using a different rom at this point? I would like to get rid of the junk apps to free up space and also might want to use a different rom later when I know more about them.

Does anyone have any insight for me? this is my first time doing this.

UpDate!!

Well I got the phone rooted and started to put the rom on it and when I go to load the zip file for the rom it aborts the load. Anyone have any ideas?

I have tried both: cyanogen_thunderg-ota-eng.mik-6.5.8 and cm-10-20120909-UNOFFICIAL-p509. I am all out of ideas.

I don't have that phone and its been many months since I used Gingerbreak so I had to do a little reading. It shouldn't take more than about 10 minutes for it to work. If its still running reboot your phone.

Do you have usb debugging selected on your phone? That has to be done first. Try Gingerbreak again if you don't have the superuser app and got root. No, you don't need the other files if you are going to run your stock rom.

Do you have a link to the roms? Maybe I can see something that might help.
 
no. I am stuck on the safe mode to load the rom from my SD Card. Ugh. I am going to see if i have to update my baseband as suggested in one forum as well as go to cyangenmod to see if their 7.2 will work.

I am getting a new phone next week yet that doesn't help me know. It looked so easy!
 
From what I can find, it looks like you need the aspee baseband fix. I haven't found a link yet.

Did you make a backup in recovery before you started and can you get back to recovery?
 
I did the 7.2 i mentioned above and it loaded an update and now is loading the cyanogen 7 once i restarted it. So yes i would say the update to v20 is needed yet I cannot find the link to one either. if i find it I'll post it here and please do if you also find it.

So it boots now on CM7?

I think I found the baseband fix here.
 
TY! Yes it boots and am now trying to set it up. Soo many new things on this one now. Trying to figure out how to set up my google account on it now. So very different.

You did most of the work :D but you're welcome. Glad you got it working.

I'm not familiar with that rom (or your phone) but you might need to flash gapps to get your google stuff, if you didn't already.
 
I loaded a gapps file and it said it loaded the google yet i need to set up an account and have no clue how to do it by this way they are asking. lol.
 
Well got to google to sign up page yet lost ability to get online. LOL. this is gonna be a process i see! Will not keep wifi settings in the phone now. LOL.
 
Yes I do yet it wasn't allowing me a sign up screen. Now i got that yet there is a wifi error now that won't let me have my wifi. LOL.
 
So now that I have the phone running I cannot set up my straight talk on it. It will not allow me to set it up and asks for a 3 digit # in the MCC section in the APN settings. Any info there for me???

I have the correct loads and everything else seems to work fine except trying to get my phone to actually be a phone. I tried putting in the APN settings sent to me by straight talk as I had them before and now they do not work nor do they save. Any info there for me???
