Help LG Optimus V won't recognize microSD card/usb

I just got an LG optimus V - I bought a sandisk 8gb microSD card and when I put it into my phone it acts like its not even there. Please help! - Also, my computer is only recognizes the phone as a removable disk so if someone can help with that too I'd really appreciate it! :(

You need to pull down the notification bar, then touch the usb connected notification and then press "turn on usb storage". unfortunately most lower-end droids require extra steps. I think higher end phones like the GSII, III and the HTC One series will do it automatically.

I also had to format my sandisk 8gb card, as explained in the manual:

I can't format it...that choice is greyed out. :( Its almost as if the phone isn't even reading the card. It reads

Total Space: Unavailable
Available Space: Unavailable
Mount SD Card: Insert and SD card for Mounting (also greyed out)
Format SD Card: Format (erase) the SD card (Greyed out)

Try to format the SD card from a computer and see if that will work.

Make sure the phone is off and not plugged in via USB when you put it back in. Then turn on the phone.

That didn't work. :\

Did you format it and all that stuff explained above? Once you do that via your computer and put it back in your Optimus V, hopefully the phone mounts it automatically. If not, you need to go back to Settings, Storage and then mount it.

HOWEVER, mounting it will only allow the computer to know if your phone's USB cord is connected to know a removable disk is available. But it is not accessible. For that to be accessible, the mass storage feature must be enabled.

That can be done by pulling down the top of the screen (your notification bar) down. If you see "USB connected", touch it and then press "Turn on USB storage". It probably will take a few moments for the computer to turn on mass storage mode, especially if it is the first time you have done so successfully.

When you are done with transferring files, it is recommended highly that you turn it off by doing the same exact thing and pressing "Turn off USB storage".

There's a step you missed... actually most people miss it.

Before you unplug the phone from any computer, you have to click on that little icon by the system clock to Safely Remove Hardware And Eject Media by right clicking and choosing "Eject MTP". Unplugging the phone from a computer without doing this will eventually damage the SD card.

My kids ruined their iPods that way.. after I repeatedly warned them about it. :(

Just tried to eject my ipod touch and there's no eject button at all. Only expand (or collapse if I've expanded it), open in new window, import pictures and videos, and properties.

Look in the task bar of the PC when the phone is plugged into the PC.

To add to what Andy said... it's on the right side of your taskbar right next to your system clock.

Edit: I noticed in one of my posts up top I said "Eject MTP"... That's a Galaxy Nexus thing. The OpV supports mass storage so it will have a different eject message. Sorry about that!

There is also a small arrow pointing up on the right side of the name of the ipod in itunes, click that to unmount it.

You can also open My Computer and right click on the ipod there and select eject from the list.

There's no "eject" option for it in My Computer. But I did find it in the area by the clock. I don't have that part showing so I didn't even realize it was there (since the eject button is usually available in MC). I don't usually have itunes open when I have it plugged in. I just plug it in mostly to charge it.

I just tried and when I click on the "safely remove hardware and eject media" icon the ipod touch is not listed. I can (and will) eject in itunes but to be honest, I only open itunes when I'm going to transfer anything to or from my ipod. 99% of the time when I plug it in, it's only to charge it.

I was trying to suggest to all that where discussing IPod Touch topics and not things concerning the LG Optimus V, that it would be better to seek a forum that would be better suited for the discussion of the IPod Touch.

This is not the forum for the IPod Touch. This forum is designed for the discussion of all things LG Optimus V. It is set up so that anybody that needs to find info on the LG Optimus V can do so with out having to dig thru a lot of other device discussions.
This is why I suggested moving the IPod Touch discussion to a forum suited for it's discussion.
