Will the same thing work if I use a different messaging app? Can I freeze the stock messaging app and just use the one I downloaded?
Is there anyway to use the exdialer and have something else show up when someone calls?? That's my only issue is when I get a call, I still have to use that ugly LG look and dialer...

yeah, even tho you freeze the stock apps the alternative one will work. however be careful on which stock apps you freeze, not all will be freezable nor i recommend to. But in this case, stock messaing and dialer app dont have problem depending on what app you install. i am currently running go sms pro and exdialer both with ICS themes as my PRIMARY system app since i froze the stock dialer and messaging app.
about the ugly LG look, that i think some modifications on the framework or certain system files need to be made. so not to sure about that.
I'm using the ICS messaging app... Think I'm ok to use that and freeze the stock messaging app? I'll try the exdialer app and theme.

yup. go ahead. i already done it, and it works. just make sure you set auto-retrieve mms from the stock messaging app and then freeze it.
