LG to Update Optimus Line to Android 2.3 Gingerbread

for the release date??? Thats what I am waiting for. For now it's vapor.

Well, all the manufacturers have had it for a month now, so it's not vaporware.

But if you mean on a device released to the public? There's Google's own phone, which has 2.3 naturally -- Samsung Nexus S sold by T-Mobile. Already been reviewed -- so touched and used by people. Goes on sale, Monday December 16.

On the upside, the Nexus S is the first handset with Gingerbread (Android 2.3), and it offers a few improvements like a second camera, an NFC chip, and a three-axis gyroscope. Performance is promising as well, and we can't help but admire its shiny looks.

I am not saying GB is vaporware...what I am saying is that LG's "update" is vapor. I'll believe they update when they actually give a release date or actually release it.

Kind of funny that they go back and forth about if the Optimus line will or will not support GB....

Oh, sorry. Yes you are right -- LG is known for slow Android updates, so even if they promise it's vaporware until they actually deliver. LG Ally owners are still waiting for 2.2.

I think the Google/Android dev guy shamed them into promising an update. They were caught lying saying there was a 1GHz minimum requirement, and he tweeted and said no there wasn't. That 2.3 had same basic requirements as 2.2.

Plus, the Optimus is a NEW phone, just now being introduced in November/December at all these US/Canada carriers. 2.3 is being introduced in December. And a NEW phone coming on the market can't handled new Android coming out at the same time? Of course it can. They just didn't want to! But now they've been shamed into promising they will... But question is WHEN. So, you are right about that.
