Root Lg Vortex no frills cpu control

Hi im newbie in the android world. Im thinking of getting a vortex my friend can add a line with Verizon and get me a free phone. How can i overclock this for the fastest and better battery performance without using a computer? Just apps downloaded straight form the phone and would 75mb data be enough for a plan or unlimited. Also can i tap into my friends PC for wifi on the phone if its locked? Is there away around it can he unlocked the server from his so i could go Wifi? Would it be possible to not even need a data. Will no frills cpu control work as an app downloaded on the phone? Experts please i want to be able to get the most performance out out this phone and overclock it with out the use of any computer

Without using a computer your vortex software should be 2.2 so you can use z4root to gain root access. I used z4root so thats what I reccomend as it worked for me the first time. If your android version is 2.2.1 you have to downgrade your software which requires a PC and some software.
I personally would go for the unlimited plan if you can, if your friends wifi is passworded you need to find out the password, then you can disable data on your phone and not use data on your plan. If you manage to get it rooted I personally think a custom rom would be the best way to get performance and have the ability to overclock
