Root Liberty 3 - Battery Issues?!?

So I've been running Liberty 3 for a while now and I really like it. Yeah, I get some FCs from time to time but it's not a big deal. I'm running Juice Defender to help some, but boy does my battery life suck. I barely use the thing all day long and it drops 60-70% by the time I'm done working.

The reason I post this is... is there any way to improve that, or do I just need to switch to another ROM. Battery life is probably the most important feature to me... as well as stability I guess. If I "should" switch, what would you recommend? I was reading about Liquid GB earlier this morning but haven't read much about it. Thanks in advance for any info!

Liberty will probably be one of the best ROMs you'll find for battery life.

How's your cell signal at work? If it is searching for a signal, that will use up the battery pretty quickly.

it also depends on what apps you have running in the background that is constantly submitting information, i know carrier coverage will infact drain your battery faster than anything else, only because it is submitting signal information to the servers to better inform you of the alternatives you have in your area, and without signal, you will run into issues with it constantly trying to send information, and the same with beautiful widgets.

I just viewed my Battery Use. Display is at 49%. There are only several apps running:

Facebook, Browser, Appstore (Amazon) and Maps.

Signal strength is usually never an issue. I am running ADW Launcher. Could that be doing it? I don't recall having that problem with the default launcher or even Go Launcher for that matter.

Edit: I just uninstalled ADW Launcher to see if that helps it.

Maybe I should reset the battery stats to get a better idea. Cause literally during the work day I don't touch it. Unless I get a call of course. I think I went to bed last night around 70% and woke up at 35%. The display definitely wasn't on during that time period. :)

I'm running Liberty 3 as well and get very poor battery performance.

My battery is down 30% by lunch time and some times I may not have even touched the phone. But I don't think I ever was getting good battery performance, because even when my X was stock, it seemed as if the battery life was fairly short. I get a very strong signal, max bars usually.

I purchased a second battery some time ago and just swap batteries as needed...batteries on Amazon are cheap, so it's a viable work around for myself.

I've got my wife's DroidX laying around somewhere (she dropped it and shattered the screen). Maybe I'll steal her battery.

It's worth a shot. I actually need to do that myself because mine seems to drop slowly down to ~70% and then rapidly drops to ~40%.

You can also look at apps that do background data checks (i.e. email, FB, Twitter, widgets) and set the frequency to a higher time or turn off the background checks completely.

So, I just checked my running applications. Holy lord there's a lot of crap running in the background. Here's a list:

Settings
ScoreCenter (ESPN)
HeyTell
JuiceDefender
gTabSimiClock (clock widget)
Phandroid
Sync Service
Suggestions Poll Schedule (no idea what this is)
Google Services
Maps
Global Unplug
DSPManager
BluetoothDun
Android Keyboard

What is some of this stuff? I'm guessing it's playing a role in my battery drain. I might start uninstalling stuff. I hate the crap that runs in the background.

Facebook and maps - kill 'em with fire. It doesn't matter if they are staying in the background, that is actually what is supposed to happen and is better for battery life. However both Facebook and Maps don't release the CPU when they are done (poorly coded apps) Removing those two usually is enough for most people. I ditched Facebook a long time ago; if you need your Facebook fix there is a lot of good alt apps that'll do the same thing and are coded much better, maps personally I just freeze it in TiBu and thaw it when its needed (I only use it once or twice a month, so no real biggie at all to me)

Also, wiping battery stats is useless; unless you hate seeing what has been using your battery. That's all it is; its the prior usage of your battery, and has no determination towards future usage at all, or any sort of calibration.

Use the Droid Overclock app and use ULV settings at max clock speeds. Then set up user profiles. Saves battery life like crazy. I can make it 2 days with moderate/low usage on the phone. Unless I am playing an intensive game or doing a lot of streaming, the normal 8am-midnight usage I get brings be down to ~40%, so that's pretty damn good. Liberty 3 is amazing.

Make sure you are using the "auto" feature for your screen brightness as well, sometimes I forget after setting it higher and it eats battery for sure. If it's draining that fast without even turning it on, it sounds like apps doing it, causing it to chew on gps signals and such.. I love Liberty, but after checking out the Simply Stunning rom, I am sold... seems to run pretty well. I put it over a fresh sbf of 621-604 w root, after wiping it good, this time getting prompted to reactivate using *228... something that always does not occur when I wipe and flash. I prefer it to do that, seems like it wiped the data better and the rom is running smoother..

I'd be interested in your battery life W/O juice defender. I purchased it about the time that Froyo came out and I had better battery life w/o it.

I would agree. I ran juice defender for a few weeks and I also observed that when I removed it that my battery life improved.

I think most battery saving apps are simply task killers and battery monitoring apps that make suggestions on when to kill wifi, gps and data ... something an observant person can do on their own without the need of an app running in the background, imo.
