Try making sure you have all of your contact lists updated in settings.
Open the Dialer>>press "contacts">>press the menu button on your phone>>press "display options"
Under "choose contacts to display" select your google e-mail account and make sure that the boxes are checked for contact lists that you want synced to your phone. I've had to uncheck/re-enable them sometimes when my phone acts up. After that, your phone should update your contacts if you have autosync enabled, otherwise manually sync. Hope that helps.
