Root Life after Root!

FergatROn

Newbie
Hi,

I have an LG Spirit and I'm curious what life might be like after I root it. I'm not a noob to rooting, neither am I an expert. In the past I've rooted my Motorola Droid and my HTC Incredible. I was thinking that after I root the LG-MS870 that I'd simply install ClockworkMod Recovery and then blow the entire OS with a fresh install of CyanogenMod ROM or MUI.

Some of the posts I'm reading here is making me think that this may not be as simple as I hoped. :hmmmm: I haven't had to deal with a locked device before. Thanks for any insight.

I don't think you'll see a night & day difference. You will gain greater ownership of your phone, and allowance to install root apps. Likewise you can get rid of any Metro apps that are currently locked while the phone's stock. I also am trying out a previous version Google Now (current versions aren't compatible) , which you can't do with a stock phone. The ROMs you mention are not "daily driver's" yet because the phone is still locked ( and may be for a while). There you have it, and I'm sure there are a few other advantages unmentioned.

Ok; so at this point in the game at the most we can root the phone (which I'll try out this weekend). :thrasher: The bootloader is still pretty locked down. So; I can't wipe the phone clean... :banghead:

"Wipe the phone clean" is probably the wrong term. What I meant by that is simply installing a custom ROM. In my mind that's wiping the phone clean. Thanks for the confirmation though.

you guys can have all the custom roms you want, just not ones that require a custom kernel.

So tweaking kernel settings wouldn't work? I'm reading and crash coursing through android programming, all the phones I've owned have been fully unlocked. This is a stumbling block in a way.

Yup LG is only hurting themselves on this, I'll probably use my spirit until something worth upgrading to comes along, hopefully during this year's holiday sales.
