Life post Swype... NOW WHAT?

:( I'd allow most apps to have access to the internet...except a keyboard app...I might be a bit paranoid but I don't trust a company/developer with access to all of my inputs including passwords.

net access is for the Speech-to-Text functionality...can't work without it.
that goes for the built in HTC keyboard as well or any app that uses this functionality for that matter. but other than this a keyboard app shouldn't need net access. i would be paranoid too. :(

Still using Swype.

Reselecting Input mode every time I reboot (maybe once a week) is better than using Ultra, for me anyways. Gave Ultra a solid go for the 24 hour refund period. I like the customization, but it just didn't have the same accuracy or feel as Swype, plus I love Swype's easy 1-9 digit keyboard and it's punctuation tricks.

I might try Shapewriter again sometime.

I love SlideIt, swiftkey and ultra keyboard. I switch between all 3 depending on my mood and how much i'm going to text. I use swiftkey when i'm giong to type something long because since it learns from your SMS texts, i barely have to type anything...the word prediction is so good that i can just type and then click the rest of the predicted words to finish out a good 2 sentences before i need to type something. mostly it's swiftkey, then slideit/ultrakeyboard are tied for 2nd.

Man, I am happy about Ultra keyboard! I think it works as good as Swype and has more customization. I was having Swype withdrawals too...tried SlideIT and it just seemed inferior in most aspects. But, Ultra works great, liked the trial so much that I bought the full.

EDIT...Well, thanks to Brian Tong, I'm swyping again...it is just superior, wish they would just let me buy it.

Do not post links to methods of obtaining and/or links to the Swype APK. The next person that does will receive an infraction.

I have tried all the major tracing / swyping based programs and at first did not like Ultra. It was getting a lot of words wrong.. until I realized that in its settings there is a calibrate feature. Once i did that, it has worked great for me with the hero keyboard theme. I wrote up a more detailed report in another thread on the same topic, but one of my favorite features is that if you hover over a letter for a split second while swyping it gives haptic feedback that you definitely want that letter. The reason this helps is that there are just some words on all of these that it constantly guesses wrong (swype / shape write / etc). The fact that the "u", "o", and "i" keys are all next to each other causes that.. but this little feature helps to ensure on those tough words it chooses the correct one. I quickly have encorporated it and I'm liking it much more than swype now. Not to mention that you can turn on multi-touch and flip the phone the landscape and the thumb-typing is a better experience than the ported droidx multitouch for me. The voice to text has been really accurate for me, and it also has a bunch of other little features (which I do not use but show that they are trying to think of everything). It seems like they took the best aspects of all the popular keyboards and encorporated it all into one. I'd advise anyone having problems getting the correct words to calibrate and see if you get a better experience as I have.

I bought Ultra Keyboard after trying the demo for 10 minutes... tons of options including a "toolbar (cut, paste, left, right, etc)" over the keyboard!! It's says it's .99 cents only until 9/30.. so hurry!

The "swiping" works great too!

edit: err... actually, that was SwiftKey for .99 cents, Ultra is $2.79 which is still good.

Looks like Swiftkey dev needed to make rent.

Just tried the Ultra keyboard Trial. I really liked it and will be purchasing the full version. Screw swype and their inability/unwillingness to actually offer a working product for purchase so they can stay in bed with the OEMs.

first off, i have went back and forth between swype and ultra for a few weeks now, and I STILL dont see how you guys like ultra. I was told to try calibration or adjust for accuracy, but these options are nowhere to be found (in trial version at least), and it's so innacurate. Especially for words with double letters. I wish I could find how to make ultra a useable keyboard, but it's just god-awful, IMO.

love swype! i tried out slideit when my other swype expired, but i just don't like it very much. imo, slideit is fugly, clunky & inaccurate. luckily, i've found & been using a nicely skinned, still-working version of swype on xda-devs ;)

Been using Swype FOREVER, including with my Omnia 1. Really miss the microphone and the new version seems inaccurate.

Test driving Ultra now - so far so good. AND it has a mic. If it continues to test well, I don't mind paying a couple bucks for it.

might be posted elsewhere but google just bought Blindtype (I requested beta testing awhile back).
It looks pretty awesome, they had an android app in testing, hope google releases soon , maybe it will be added to gingerbread?

Anybody using SlideIt know how to change it so that the return key sends the message on BeeJive instead of making a new line? I can't send any messages...
Didn't have this problem with swype.
