Root Like the Help guy, I screwed up...

Did the same thing, stupidly deleted the metro browser for good measure after rooting it (was doing it to get the two wifi's from turning on and off and killing my battery.

After a few hours of looking things up I've managed to install the apps I actually want, and even get Opera on there. However I had to do all that through a sideways usb connection as I can't download anything at the app store right now. Every file I try to download the phone tries to finish, then I get the (Sorry!process has been terminated message). I've cleared the cache, checked the market update. I almost got the original browser restored in system apps, but apparently I can't change the permissions from the SD card, so it won't copy from root explorer.

Anyone have any ideas. I really could use some.

Copy the browser.apk back into /system/app(s) reboot.

Run root explorer again. Change permissions to rw-r--r-- I think. Reboot and see if it works. Once again you need to Mount the file system as "R/W"
Near the top of root explorer

I guess first off can anyone post the metro browser system app. And 2nd do you mean to do it through command lines or does this technique work doing it from the SD card through root explorer?

In Root Explorer,
If you press-hold on the apk and scroll around there is a Permissions option set it there

Try this...">

K got it, however, the problem is, it won't transfer from and SD card on my version of root explorer. I copy it and it doesn't appear. If I change permissions they don't stay changed. (I did mount it as r/w), and it won't just install on its own. Step by step how would you replace your file with this.

So you copied.. and then pasted? I never deleted browser.apk, but I removed SNS.apk(FB and twitter app). It wouldn't reinstall, but I simply copied and pasted it back into /system/app, changed the permissions back to rw-r--r--, rebooted and the apps came back.

At this point there is not a known recovery ROM. I think there is a Optimus S one, but it doesnt have the right button mappings or something.

If you bought the phone and paided for the isurance, I am sure you can figure out a way to get a new phone.

But who knows maybe you can contact Metro and say, Can you reflash my phone its acting funny. Who knows...

I have a thought, just something to try really. Could somebody post their version of root explorer that allows them to copy and past things from sd cards? Or even another program. Maybe I'm using the wrong one. I'm stumped otherwise though. I don't mind bringing it to metro, I just want to exhaust all my options here. Its the only thing not working on this phone really, so its kind of a bummer since it seems I did everything else right.

Also removing the wifi stuff REALLY saves on battery life...

Edit: Turns out I was using a way old version of root explorer. K now I can copy it just having a hard time getting it to show up. I should set the permissions after I reboot is what you mean?
