Ok so I don't have the skills for developing, but here's an interesting idea. How about a program that let's g1 users login and download(FREE) music from other g1 users phones, so in theory, everysong on anyones g1 is accesable in this program and can be downloaded for free straight onto ur sd card, it could have a connection chart IE, wifi,3g,g,edge. I think this would kick ass, and would be totally awesome. What do u think?

Make it like actual limewire, where there's a fee to use the program unlimited monthly, but you're still gaining the files from others on the network. Royalty problem solved.

Simply because you're charging a subscription fee doesn't mean royalties are taken care of. There would be mounds and mounds of paperwork to take care of.

It's not illegal. The programmer just sets up a network so people can share files. Its up to the user what they share/download.

Would you illegally share something? I doubt Google let's that through the market. I'm sure they'd rather just avoid it.

but its a legal program. let the user decide if he/she wants to use it illegally or not. Just because I can use a gun to rob a bank, doesn't mean guns should be banned. If someone makes it, I better hope Google lets it through the market, otherwise I feel like they're going against their opensource democracy.

I don't know what's written into the developer posting agreement, but I would imagine there's something ruling that kind of tool out.
It's not like you couldn't dl it from somewhere else on the intertubes, though.
Disallowing it from the Market doesn't violate the open source ideology. Someone CAN develop it, but Google doesn't have to PROMOTE it.

Google has stated that they will not interfere with what is allowed on the android platform (with the acceptation of malicious programs like viruses and spyware). Will they host something like this on the market, i'd say yes they would because its how the end user uses the program and not the program itself that makes it illegal. And if they don't well they won't stop you from getting it from somewhere else.

While it may seem cool. It's a really really really bad idea for a mobile phone. These cellular networks are not flawless and if you try to put up device based file sharing like that, you could really cripple the network.
Not to mention it is not morally right (who cares about legalities).
Use your computer for limewire. Its not like its difficult to transfer music over to the G1.

Given how linked the G1 is to Google and the data trace through Tmo or a phone carrier, I would not ever consider using Limewire on a phone- just one song can be a bad deal. Not worth it on a computer either.
Not to mention the memory and resource issue would be a problem with the G1.

umm.. alot of the things we are/want to do can be done easier/faster using the computer, but thats not the point now, is it?
I can browse the web alot easier using a computer, but i like having a browser on my phone? o.o
Say what you will, but while the thought of peer to peer on a mobile device sounds cool, it's impractical and unnecessary. Some things are just better left on full PCs and Limewire and p2p is one of those things. I don't want a bunch P2P congesting my mobile network and I don't want to see a bunch of crying b/c idiots hit their data cap and force T-mobile into a much lighter cap on data.
Even though I wouldn't use it, I could see something like this still having a negative impact on me.
