Limit notification frequency

molmolmol

Lurker
Sorry if this has been posted/solved before, but I couldn't find any help...

I would like to know a way to limit the notification frequency. For example, when I'm in a Facebook conversation with more people and they start chatting, every new message triggers the notification sound/vibrate on my phone, sometimes it starts beeping non-stop for minutes.
I would like to limit the phone for, for example, one notification per minute. Is it possible? Other ideas for preventing non-stop notifications are also welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Im wondering if Light Flow could be capable of doing this.. the dev is on holiday right now but im gona suggest it if i remember

lightflow only catches notifications that hit the status bar. i don't think it has the means of scheduling quiet times like that, plus your device needs an LED to truly take advantage of it. it just brings one of the most popular BlackBerry features to our phones. the blinky light for new notifications has this nature of making you feel the need to grab your phone to find out what it is, hence the term 'CrackBerry' aka digital crack and the addiction to checking the new items. i suppose for Android it could be termed 'Cocaindroid'

Lol. Yeah i think LF is misunderstood though. Even without the LED part, it can take total control of an app's notifications. You can turn off an app's onboard notifications and let LF take over so i think it would be possible for the dev to make it only notify once every X minutes for any given app for example.
I actually use lightflow to STOP certain apps from using the LED :)
The only led i use is solid (no blinking) red for missed call, solid blue for gmail, solid green for sms.
The benefit is i can pull the phone out my pocket and instantly see if theres something maybe important. Added to that i use Dynamic Notifications so i dont even have to fully wake the phone to get a preview of what i missed (like on the Moto X.. totally recommended. Get it while its free) :)

i use many LEDs which remain always-on and cycle through the notiifications. if anything, it saves me the trouble of turning the phone on, smudging my screen to unlock it, and find the notification in the bar. it also saves battery. really helps also to find out if it's a notification worthy of a response (text messages and missed calls from the boss are white) or something i can probably ignore till i get home (blue for email, orange for Facebook)

WTF? the Moto X is FREE?!

Lmao :D
Lol try dynamic notifications. Same idea. On an amoled display it definately saves battery

Step aside gentlemen and let the resident LightFlow pimp step in.

(First of all, you should try the Lite version of LightFlow first. It is not a time limited app and fully functional. But it will NOT work with facebook. You can test it with gmail, SMS, whatsapp, Google Now, etc to see if it is to your liking. Then you would have to purchase the full version to use it with facebook - and hundreds of other apps.)

As funky mentioned, you can turn off notifications in the facebook app and allow LightFlow to take over. This will allow you to customize your alert sound, sound reminders, vibration, vibration reminders and LED blink rate and color (color is hardware dependent). This allows you to customize every aspect of the alert.

For example, when your screen is off a facebook alert could be a fast blue blink, not vibrate and beep every minute to remind you of the alert. Meanwhile an email could be a slow green, every 5 minutes and beep every 30 minutes only. etc.

In the LightFlow app settings you can set sound, repeat sounds, vibration and/or repeat vibration to "xxxx allowed when screen on" or not. Same for "in call". I think this would be the answer to what you want. Specifically....

- facebook notifications could be set to enable sound
- Then do NOT allow sound "when screen on".
- But then under "repeat sound" for facebook allow "when screen on" and set the "sound frequency" to "every 1 minute" (or two minutes, three minutes, etc.)

The only flaw I am guessing that would occur here is, you would probably get the one reminder sound as long as there is a facebook alert or alertS. You would not get one per alert while your screen is on. So, if you are using facebook and you get three alerts, you would only get one reminder every two minutes. Whereas, if you screen is off, you would get an alert for every facebook alert (and the LED).

Pimp daddy ^ :D
The thing is though, a reminder is different from getting a new alert every few seconds. If you think of google hangouts if theres a lot of people in the one hangout, it can get really noisy with new alerts for each message someone posts. I dont think theres a way around that with lightflow so you only get the one alert say every 10minutes(?)

Ya, I think that the compromise would be either a) no alerts at all OR b) one alert every few minutes regarding any number of several alerts (one to several).

BTW, I am not 100% sure this would work as I described above. It makes logical sense in the settings that this will work. But, I have not had the constant facebook, whatsapp, etc. messaging issues like the OP. So I cannot replicate this or say I have had a need for it. Which is why he should play with the free version first.

Agreed man :D
What id like and think would be possible is to say to LF, only give me notifications, for everything, every say 30mins so theres a complete quiet time for X amount of minutes and then you get all notifications. I know what it can be like if you post a popular fb status or whatever lol. Pop pop pop pop pop :D

Use Shush. Set it for 30-minutes. Place phone face down.

I was well-known for going to a movie then leaving my phone on silent for hours after words. Even worse, I would leave it in the car on silent and spent even more time finding it. Shush has saved me from all that and also post meetings.
