Help Limited data plan

Lurker
I'm sure this has been asked before, if so I do apologize. (I made a quick search earlier but couldn't find any).

I'm on the limited data plan - 15$ a month 200mb. I DO NOT want to go over that, I only EVER want to use Wi-Fi for data. What will ensure I never accidentally make that mistake?

Under Wireless settings, Wi-Fi there doesn't seem to be any options that fully assure me I won't be using cellular internet.

I suppose those jerks really want you to accidentally use their data, very annoying. Anyway any suggestions I appreciate thanks guys.

Really loving this phone, a lot! I don't want to give it up but given my current situation even 15 dollars more a month wouldn't be doable, and an outrageous bill for going over 200mb would be even worse.

Settings->Wireless & networks-->Mobile networks-->uncheck "Data enabled"

Now it won't use data unless you turn it on, hope this helps you out :)

Thanks for the quick reply, really appreciate it.

Under mobile network settings my only options seem to be.

Select network (which is grey) Operator Selection (which is also grey)

Access point names (which I can select)

Under APN I have the options

AT&t US wap.cingular

AT&t HSDPA (which seems to be highlighted)

AT&T Us Tether Broadband

AT&T US MMS wap.cingular

Sorry if I'm being a noob, I don't seem to have the option "data enabled."

Maybe I have a different version?

My System version is 4.5.91

If I select ATT HSDPA under the APN menu everything there is grey except for the APN protocol.

Also another question.

On the default menu (idk if everyone had it this way) there are 4 check boxes to turn "off" or "on" one is of a satellite the other is bluetooth another WI-FI and the last one an airplane. I know airplane mode turns all wireless communication off.

What does the satellite do? Is that GPS? I didn't pay the 10 dollars a month for the GPS so I assume it won't be available to me, or does the atrix come with GPS without having to use ATT services?

Thanks again so much for your help.

Yes its GPS. And no u don't have to pay to use the phones GPS. That's just att's useless navigation that they try to charge for.

That is what I thought. I didn't think they'd have some way of disabling GPS and forcing you to use their services. So that's awesome then, I can use GPS as well.

Glad it worked. Enjoy your ATRIX, I have had mine for 9+ months which is a new record for me and still like it as much. :)

Yeah same here I'm truly impressed by it's capability.

I think I'll be pleased with this for at least a year and a half, probably more.

You can also download My Data Manager or 3G Watchdog to help monitor your data. Both are free. These apps give you a pretty close estimate of your current data use. You can also download My ATT which shows your data use but this one isn't current. Not sure of the lag time but it's probably several hours.
As mentioned above when you get to 65% of your plan you will get a text from ATT.
