limited data usage on UNLIMITED Data plan GRRR!!

Lurker
what an oxymoron right? well i watch tons of TV on my phone and tether quite a bit and half way through my first month w/ my G2 4g (which is extremely fast). I get a text from t-mobile saying that i have used too much data and that they are going to slow my internet connection down now for the rest of the billing period (ON UNLIMITED EVERYTHING PLAN).

I called T-mobile and the called this a THROTTLE because i am slowing down their network w/ too much usage, they said it THROTTLES after 5 gigs.

Has anyone experienced this yet? if so... is there a way to possibly hide the amount of data usage from t-mobile? I cant even listen to PANDORA without my phone skipping through the songs... DAMNIT

Yeah, they're all like that. It is "unlimited," however it isn't "unlimited at best performance."

T-Mobile slows you down after 5Gigs. I believe Verizon does the same. AT&T charges you extra (I believe) just after 2Gigs. I'm not sure how Sprint works.

Yeah it sucks, but it kinda makes sense. I'd prolly get another line and discontinue my Comcast Cable if it was "unlimited at highest speed."

As far as masking it is concerned, I highly doubt it's possible to fool your provide at how much data they're giving you. Maybe I'll be corrected though...

My friend has sprint, and he wifi hotspots at least 3 devices every night. He uses 30GB of data monthly with no Throttle. Sprint said that "Unlimited means unlimited" and won't throttle their data. That's also why I want Sprint to buy Tmo.

BTW, it used to throttle at 10GB of data, but yea.

You can't hide the data usage... as TM is sending the data out. I guess you could break into their office, break into their computer system and change your data. Think about it... if people could hide their data usage we'd all just pay $10/month for unlimited data.

Here is the solution... limit your tethering and streaming TV. Even with 5GB you should have plenty.

Sorry there is no way. It's actually a good thing that we're on the throttling after 5 Gigs plan as the new plan that came out Wednesday throttles after 2.

Hmm... lets think about this. How does one hide their data usage from the people who are providing you WITH the data that you are using? Unless someone figures out how to bootleg data like they do with cable...

i find this very stupid.. but atleast we don't get charged extra when we pass our 5gb..i tether quite a bit..last month i used 6gb..but luckily what i do know..i switch sim cards with my wife lol so know we are good

your correct your all good until 5gb then it's slows down and no luckily they don't charge extra if you go over (atleast not yet)

i heard for new contracts though they lowered it down to 2gb then it slows down not sure so don't quote me
