I was beginning to hijack someone elses thread with this question. I apologize for that.
I thought it was best to start my own. I wanna thank Metfanant
and bubbaken for helping.
I am trying to get GB on my Droid X and now I cant seem to find a working link to the file. Can anyone possibly help with that?
Also after a lot of looking around I found this post with a file to back up Froyo. Should I download this and hang onto it for when the OTA does hit?
It seems very large, 256 MB I think does that sound right? Im Slowly learning my way around this site and this phone, Thanks to all you guys.

this site U D G is the best I've found for someone new to rooting. I used it to help me out my first time rooting (which was just a few months ago). Read it a few times and get a good understanding of what needs to be done before you actually attempt anything. And don't worry, everyone here is more than willing to help you out if you get stuck.

X2 - Helped me get it right the first time and I'm a real noob with rooting! If you can, donate to them as they're better than tech support?

Well Im on Gingerbread. So far Im diggin it. Havent played around much but was wondering what enhancements I should be noticing.
Also I have the Sync symbol that wont go away. Cant remember what fixes have been found for this. Thanks again to the guys who helped me out.

If I remember right, the sync icon thing can be fixed with a data wipe/factory reset. But definitely check out the "All Things Root" section to be sure.

Wow!! Is it possible that GB has improved my 3G capabilities? I have maintained 2 to 3 bars all day in a big machine shop. This never happens.
I still have the constant Synch symbol though.
I am afraid to do a factory reset because I've never done it and I don't know what exactly I should be backing up or how yet.

You can also freeze BlurContactsSync.apk with Titanium Backup to get rid of the constant sync icon.

Bowslayer I just SBF'd back to the stock OTA in anticipation of (someday) VZW sending out an official Gingerbread release. That and I had some time to kill and wanted to play around...

I felt like my battery wasn't lasting as long although this wasn't officially tested. I'll know over the next few days as my phone use is typically the same. I also could not remove the connection icon in the taskbar but it just didn't get in my way. The other thing about .588 was the hard key lights were just way to bright. I use the phone at night and those were just to annoying, especially when watching video through you tube.

I hope the May 26 rumor is true though!

Good luck,

How exactly did you get back to stock? I assume I will have to do the same when the OTA is sent out? I gotta say after cleaning up the mess I've created since I bought this phone and the Factory reset I am Really liking Gingerbread. Everything seems faster and I swear my 3G is improved. The different options and menus seem to be much better. I want to take this chance to thank everyone on this site who offers help to the new guys. I wouldn't have even tried to do this without the info I found here.

I sent you a message as there quite a few sites out there. I think new (different) always seems better as 340 seems fast to me now.

;)
