Root Link2SD troubles

today i got a new SD card and popped it into my phone, booted into recovery (xionia), partitioned the SD card with xionia copied my old SD card contents over to the new card (to the larger partition obviously) and attempted to use link2sd

it refuses to mount the 2nd partition i've tried all the options in link2sd and it always says mount script cannot be created with either "no such device" (under ext *) or "invalid argument" (with FAT32/FAT16)

edit... after the 507th variation of search terms google halfway lead me to enough information to guess at an answer that worked

apparently xionia only wants to format the partition to ext3/4 and the phone apparently doesn't support it reformatting the partition to FAT on my PC fixed it

To use ext* you have to use a custom kernel.

but i have to ask... i linked a couple apps to give it a quick test to make sure it worked and checked my phone storage and it was at 50MB (a good 20MB more than i had at boot) now after linking nearly everything else (just leaving a handful of apps on the internal storage) it's down to 37MB

is my phone misreporting the space or what?
