Root Link2SD without new ROM

I saw the way to set up link2SD from fresh quote but it also mentioned flashing the new ROM first. can I just run the recovery mode reset, wipe the necessary caches and continue with the link2SD & Titanium install?

Here's what happened. I ran Titanium and copied the backup folder to the PC. Then I set the partitions like it said on your linked page. Then I put back that backup folder. From there, could I just follow the fresh wipe directions? Again, I'm not flagging a ROM. Could I just factory reset, thru recovery, wipe the caches and other folders and reboot my phone? Also, could this just a well work on a Slider phone? Thanks

your questions gets a bit confusing.

But I can tell you I have two OV set up as WiFi game devices for GF kids.

All I did was root them and left the stock system/rom intact and install link2SD for more game room.

working fine so far.

If you are going to install link2sd on a stock ROM, make sure your second partition is set to FAT32. The stock kernel will not recognize an ext partition. This means you will need to repartition your on a PC.

Riggerman's right. The idea of partitioning an SD used to scare th bejeebers out of me... but I just recently did it with Minitool Partition Wizard and it's so easy!! If I can do it, anyone can. Plus, if you make any mistakes, there's an Undo button. That saw alot of action from me. ;)

If your not using a rom you don't need to do all the extra work. Just follow that link I gave, backup your card, partition it with mini tool, put everything back on your card, stick it back in your phone, it won't even know you did anything, install link2sd, launch it, select fat32 from the pop up menu, reboot, then open link2sd and link everything. You don't have to wipe anything or any of that extra work.

thanks for the feedback guys. I was doing all this work on my friend's phone. I'll put it to use tomorrow since you've broke it down for me.

Okay, it all worked out. Few more things before I leave this thread to die. Some apps are system apps and I can't move/link them. Do I turn them into user apps and then proceed with linkage? Cuz that's what I've been doing.

Also, I know the Play Store & perhaps TitBack and Link2SD I should still leave on the phone. So, can I move everything else? There's like Android framework and other shtuf (network location, acct. & sync settings,...) that are system files that I don't wanna move/link and accidentally fudge things up.

edit: so i looked again. i'm mainly moving things from the /data/app folder, and the /system/app is the stuff I can't link until I turn it to user app that turns it into one in the /data/app folder? bare with me, I'm learning as I go haha.

Google apps are ok but I wouldn't touch the main system apps. The thing about system apps they are in the system partition which doesn't effect internal memory. So if it shows up in the market you can link it, if not don't. You can list what you want to move and we'll give you suggestions by app on whether to leave it or move it.

I wouldn't bother with system apps. Leave then where they are. They aren't taking any space space on your internal memory. Plus some of them can cause real problems if moved and something happens to your sd card.
