Root Linux/XP?

zuben el genub

Extreme Android User
I want to get rid of Maps, latitude, places, books. I really don't care about a custom ROM.

I have an SGS4G and rooted just to get rid of what I see as unnecessary stuff that doesn't need to update, check for updates or run at all. Quite a lot of carrier bloat. The above apps are gone and I don't miss them.

The phone is supposed to be unlocked, but it was a TMO phone. I am a TMO user, so that's OK.

Do you use Titanium backup on this phone? How about root explorer?

I'd like to try using Ubuntu 11.04, but I've had some trouble with commands.
I've used the commands posted for doing an install, and the instructions given by the program were wrong.

I did the SGS4G twice - once when I got it, then after updating to GB.

I haven't put my SIM in yet so there are no private files. I'm thinking about getting everything together first and printing out instructions.

It looks like there will be plenty of room. I have my SD card backed up and can TF music and personal stuff with ease.

I just want to see if apps with large db - like Astronomy, Birding and nature apps run faster from the phone. The SGS4G (actually a Vibrant) uses the card.

Which would be the easiest?
Thanks
