How do I root my HD using Ubuntu, since all the guides seem to have me typing things into Command Promt under windows?

Have you tried the commands using the terminal?

It's been ages since I've used Ubuntu, but could you use the command prompt in WINE?

Using the "hack tools" you can run a .sh on Linux! I did it to downgrade and root ill pop a link up when I get home
