Help List of potential remedies for low storage error?

Hi everybody,

I know there's a sticky out there regarding the low storage space error, but is there a comprehensive list anywhere of all the things that need to be tried to fix this? I tried wading through the 18 pages and found some suggestions, but they didn't work for me. My wife has a non-rooted incredible. I've cleared caches, rebooted, pulled battery, moved apps off & back on SD card, but nothing has worked. We still can't get the 4.08.605.2 update because of the error, and now she's not receiving any text messages or voice mail notifications.

A factory reset will definitely remove the error, but the only true fix will only work if you are rooted.

For non rooted phones you have to clear caches (like you've done) but you sometimes also need to clear data. Facebook, Google sky map, Netflix, are some of the major offenders that will eventually cause the error.

The error will keep coming back unless you remember to clear cache and data regularly for apps.

Page one and page 12 are the most helpful pages in the stickied thread you referenced.

Thanks for responding. How does clearing the data affect the program or app (vs. what clearing the cache does)?

Basically we are trying to avoid a factory reset or root of the phone since there is only about 1 month to go until we can upgrade. So I'm guessing if the clearing of the cache & data doesn't clear the error, then reset or root is only option huh?

I'm gonna go back and read more on the stickied thread also. If anyone can add any other thoughts, please do and thanks.

Clearing the data also clears account information/login information. So in the case of Facebook or netflix, when you open up the app again, it will just ask you to log back in like the first time you used it.

I can't thank you enough. I finally cleared enough data to not only remove the error, but also to install 4.08.605.02. I did have to set the date back to have the update reappear, but so far so good now that it's in place. Now if it just holds on for this final month! Thanks again.

No problem, glad to hear you have it working again. :)
