Root LOADS of questions on rooting ;)

kanay2000

Newbie
I've read this guide:
http://androidforums.com/desire-all...nrevoked-windows-updated-20th-may-2011-a.html

and the FAQ (by the way, many thanks to the guy who created it! must have took him ages)

Concerning the guide, here are my questions:
1) What is 'ARA' and how do I find it?
2) Why do I need my Hboot and PVT version?
3) Why do I need to do the Prerequisite steps? (this video: ‪How to root HTC Hero, Desire, EVO 4G, Wildfire, Aria, Droid Incredible,‬‏ - YouTube shows how to root and doest include those steps
4) What exactly is a goldcard? And do I need one before I root?

I'm sure, I'll think of 5 more questions later on, but many thanks in advance :)

1) ARA is an Arabian build so if your software version matches the one in the guide, you need to use Unrevoked 3.32 otherwise, use 3.21. If you are not from an Arab region, you are unlikely to have an arab build.

2) Because some PVT4 devices have a different erase size and the default recovery that is flashed during the unrevoked process will not work. Only hboot lower than 1.02 can be rooted with unrevoked.

3) Because my guide is comprehensive and many others are not. you MUST complete the prerequisite steps

4) http://androidforums.com/desire-all...aq-rooting-updated-10th-august-2011-a.html#16

You're doing the right thing by reading up first, and asking questions before doing anything to your phone. Do listen to whatever SUroot (and Rasta and Hadron) say - these guys really know what they're talking about, but if you read up thoroughly first you'll hopefully have no need of their help in solving any major problems ;).

thanks so much man,

my software version is 2.29.405.5 so I need to use UnrEVOked 3.21?

Also, I think my phone is PVT1 as it says 'Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON' am I correct?

As for your Prerequisite steps, I can do all of them except the Hboot drivers, as I dont understand how you do the 1'st step which is:
"Extract your hboot driver files somewhere you will remember."

Again, thanks a million :)

Software version is fine. PVT1 - no need to download an alternative recovery.

Once you download the hboot drivers in a zip file, unzip it somewhere you can easily remember, eg your desktop.

How do I go about downloading the Hboot in the firstplace? All I know about 'Hboot' is that you have to keep hold of the down volume key and power ... and then you see something that says Hboot. I have no idea about anything after that

Last questions ... hopefully :P

1) Do you create a Goldcard before/after you root your phone
3) I have to format my SD card right? Does this mean my everything in my SD card will be deleted? And can I back the contents up and restore it later?

Thank you sssoooo much (you should have a donate button under your signiture, maybe a link to PayPal, I would donate :) )

1) Gold card can be done at any time but you dont explicitly need one as you are unbranded and RUU's are available for this (2.29.405.5)

2) Whats 2?

3) Goldcard making process formats the card. You can backup the SD onto PC and always copy it back. Its best to do this if partitioning the card too.

2 was, where to find the tool ... but i found it :) Oh and last thing:
While I was on (volume + power button) mode, i clicked on SIMlock by accident, but there were two things saying that they failed ...
what does this mean? And will it affect my root?

Thank You Ever So Much

It activates simlock (only use a sim for a particular network) but the files it needs to do this luckily were not found, so it could not complete it.
