Local Double A Baseball

Friday night I'm taking in a local Baseball game. It is the Wichita Wind Surge who are in last place in the Double A Texas League North. With a brand new team and stadium a couple of years back I had aspirations of being a devout fan with season tickets. I realized quickly that it was no longer a poor man's entertainment and have not followed the team at all. I wouldn't be attending a game Friday but my daughter's second graders are being recognized for some sort of reading achievement and she has free tickets. We went last year.. same deal.. and had a good time. The stadium is top notch. It's way over priced but nice. I miss the old stadium and the cheap seats.
 
We had a low A Team of the Miami Marlins for a while, but they left. We currently have a Frontier League Team. They are not affiliated with any MLB team, but they claim to be affiliated with MLB to promote baseball. Reserved seats start at $16 Which I think is pretty high and they are not well organized

never been to a local pro baseball game other than when i was in little league. i don't think we have a pro sports team in my area. i think you need to go out towards east of LA towards the more rural areas near the deserts to find them. we do have a nice sportsplex nearby, but i do not think they host any pro teams. just little leaguers.

i do love to go to Dodger games though. now that Ohtani is here, i think i need to go to see him live.
 
Through my life Wichita has had a number of Double A and farm teams. Some better than others but they were fun to attend. The old stadium was the home field for the National Baseball Conference tournament for many decades. They were a lot of fun to attend and often the seats could be had free from different merchants that would hand out tickets to a night of games they were supporting. I got to see some great ball players that played in that tournament. My kids grew up running around that stadium. I had to climb over the security fence in the middle of the night to find a stuffed lamb my first daughter had left in the stands and would not quit crying and go to sleep without it. :) All four of my children earned the baseball around the clock plaque for being in the stadium for each roll call over 24 hours straight of baseball. We lived in that old stadium. The new stadium is far too.. well new lol. It has no flavor. And season tickets are for the big companies and jet set. It's no longer a poor man's source of entertainment.
 
In my area of Michigan, we have the USBL consisting of 4 teams for 2024.

Not bad, the guys really play hard and some have been drafted to the MLB.
Seats range from 12 dollars anywhere to 56 dollars for suites. The concessions are great, not overpriced and it's a family fun atmosphere. Parking is free and easy in and out. There's even a restaurant bar and grill located inside that offers great dishes.
I'll be going to a few games on the weekends as always.
 
I love the sounds of that Danny. I love me a cold beer and some snacks and a competitive game. I use to hang out with a crew from the little town I grew up in outside of Wichita. We all played ball together and against each other and at that time our boys were battling each other. We had a blast. The boys had a blast. So relaxing and good clean fun.
 
Same here, played some type of sports from sun up until sun down. Usually our gang would compete against another neighborhood gang for bragging rights. We won most matches, lol. Today's kids just shoot each other.
 
We didn't have any organized sports besides baseball. We played our own brand of basketball and football and always had baseball organized and backyard. There was a field a couple of blocks from home that had a backstop of a sorts. I played a million games on that field. There were no bases but the baselines were worn paths. I feel sorry for the youth of today.
 
I lived in a corner house at the end of the block, right across the street from a park with the baseball diamond right in front of us. Needless to say I played baseball nearly every day! And if it wasn't baseball it was football, 3 against 3, basketball at my buddies house, because he had a basket on the garage. Street hockey playing with a tennis ball or plastic Puck. Such great memories.
 
My kids are in their thirties and forties. They played outside. They might be about the last generation to do so. I was one of those dads that played with them. I would play with the grandkids but they don't play. The great grandkids are playing organized sports. Bitty basketball and soccer seem to be the sports for little guys. Good on the parents for seeing they do something.

I treasure all the play time I had while growing up. If it wasn't sports we played army or cowboys or kick the can or hide and go seek. We'd race our bicycles. We had dirt clod fights. Go swimming in the creek. We did something. And when we got a little older we all worked. Newspapers, handbills, mowed grass, shoveled snow. Did paper drives. Washed cars. If you wanted something, you had to figure out how to earn it. I think it was an excellent way to grow up.
