Help Locations Widget

Hi,

Just got my HTC Desire S and am enjoying it. I have problem with the 'locations' widget though.


The symptoms:

When I go to the widget screen it perpetually says "Map data unavailable." with "Updating..." below it. It has yet to update. When I tap on the "Map data unavailable." box, I get a map of Taiwan (presumably where the device was made).
When I tap on the push pin below the box, I get my proper location.
When I tap on the three lines below the box, I get a list of 'Nearby' catagories, but every catagory is blank with "No locations found.".



I have tried:

Removing the widget and reinstalling it.
All three combinations of "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites"
Reinstalling the application.

Any ideas? Why does it show Taiwan when I tap the box, but it shows me in the US when I tap the push pin? What is the difference between those?

Is there a different widget I can use with the same funcionality?

I received a response from HTC customer service yesterday. They say that they received much more usage of HTC Sense service than they anticipated and are working on the issue. My widget fixed it self and started working the same day.

I played around with it, and then deleted it in favor of google maps.

I've just bought an HTC Desire S from Orange and it came with all maps installed.
I open Locations and pan on the map and then it closes.
Everytime i open it, it closes.
I also wrote to HTC and they've told me to try reinstall the app, i did that and still it closes.

Same thing happens when i open Car Panel and select "Search on map" and i instantly closes, and redirects me to the menu.
Then the HTC guys, told me to restore to factory settings the phone, that didn't help either.

I don't want to erase the content on SD card, because i will loose all my maps, and i've checked to see if i could download them after, but, in the "Get more" section, nothing loades for Maps or Navigation.

I've tried WIFI and GPRS and nothing.
Interesting is the fact that i can very well use Maps application, it works like a charm wil all maps.

But Car panel and Location close everytime i try to view the map.

Please help, i don't know what to do anymore.

Locations is a pretty awful application, especially compared too Google Maps, which is what I tend to use. Loc is really jerky and unstable, and the orientation is next to useless. This is a great shame as the pre-loaded maps would save a lot of data especially when abroad. HTC really need to do some work on this!

Locations isn't the most intuitive map app I've come across and neither is Navigation, which after trialing it for the last couple of weeks, won't ever replace my car's satnav.

Have you tried integrating it with Google Navigation to see if that bumps things into gear? There's probably another way to do this, but if you turn your GPS off, then All apps > Navigation, you should get a message saying 'GPS is disabled. Show location settings'. Press OK > Check 'Integrate Google Navigation'.

If you find it checked, perhaps unchecking it might prod it into doing something.
