Lock screen lag because of KitKat

I used to have my PIN lock screen all set up and once I typed in the number, the screen instantly unlocked. Now when I do this, it takes about an extra second before actually unlocking. I know a second isn't a long time. However why would KitKat cause this? I have to wait an extra second before I even start typing in my PIN once I turn the screen on or it won't even catch the first number or two of it. The swipe to unlock is faster but still lags and isn't nearly as quick or easy as it was on JB.

Before you ask, I did factory reset after the update. I haven't downloaded any different apps or set anything else up that is different and could be causing this. For the most part, KK has been fine. However this is very annoying since it went a very long time with no such issues before. I have an S4 on Verizon, all stock, NOT rooted.

Anyone else notice this?

I had the problem but I am rooted . I needed a task killer . but your not rooted . so it can only be a reset which you done . or a app is taking its time to download which I have to ask how many apps do you have on the device.

Problem: Lag or stutter

Many people have found that the S4 stutters out of the box. There are reports of stuttering on entering and exiting apps, some lag on unlocking, and also lag when pressing the Home button. You can reasonably expect a smartphone this powerful to be as smooth as silk. If it isn’t then you can try the following:

Possible solutions:

Go to*Settings > Developer options*and scroll down. Try changing*Window animation scale,*Transition animation scale, and*Animator duration scale*to*Animation is off. If you don’t see*Developer options*then you can unlock it by going to*Settings > More > About device*and tapping theBuild number*several times (you should get a pop-up message when developer options is unlocked).Go to*Settings >My device > Lock screen*and then tap*Unlock effect*and change it to*None.Fire up S-Voice and go into*Settings*and then uncheck the box next to*Open via the home key. Be aware that this will disable the double tap activation for S-Voice, but it will also eliminate the Home button lag.

Thanks for your help! I didn't even know about that little trick. I already had unlock effects off. The same goes with S-voice, I don't usually use that but had the home button part off. However, shutting off all animation on the other 3 choices under "developer options" had made a noticeable difference. It's not quite as fast on the PIN screen as pre-KK, but much more bearable. That swipe unlock is instant now with zero lag. I think I'll be OK if this stays the same. I appreciate the information!

You can try doing Pattern Unlock, it's almost as fast as Swipe but obviously far more secure, that's what I use. :)
