Help Lock screen password forgotten

How does one get in to the Note 10.1 if the lockscreen password is forgotten?

I just had this happen on one of the kids Nexus tablets. I tried to use the Android Device manager to lock the screen and change the password but for some reason it would not work while the tablet was locked. I did many searches to see if there was some back door but finally ended up just resetting the device and re configuring it.

Best of luck.

Thank you for the replies! I think I'm gonna have to do a factory reset. Can I do it myself? Are there any instructions posted here already as to how that's done for this tablet? Someone at Best Buy quoted me $15 to do it. Then another employee said it's actually $100, but that they'd honor what the first person told me.

Hi Selky4G :)

Yes, you can do the factory reset for yourself.

Note to self: I need to start offering a Factory Reset service for $100 a pop.

Keep in mind that a factory reset will erase ALL data from the device. Do this only as a last resort!

Here's a youtube video that will walk you through the process: Galaxy Note 10.1 - Hard (Factory) Reset (3 Ways) - YouTube

Essentially:
  1. Press and hold Volume Up and Power for up to ten seconds. The device will reboot to the factory recovery mode.
  2. Scroll up/down with the Volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset, and confirm your selection with the Power button.
  3. Scroll down again to again confirm the selection with the Power button.
  4. When you return to the recovery mode menu, press the Power button again to reboot

Let us know if you run into any issues. :)

Thanks so much! That's what I was thinking!! $100?? =)
Yeah i have a LOT of important info and work I've done on it that I hadn't backed up. But I think this is my only option. =(
