Help Lockscreen timeout voids password AT&T S2

i tried posting something similar a few minutes ago, but it didn't show up.

anyway, i setup a password for the lockscreen, but the screen timeouts in about ten seconds. from there, when you activate the screen again, the password is gone, and you can access the phone. this is NOT good. any workarounds? is there a setting to set the lockscreen time? i can't find one.

edit: i saw the other thread, and set the timeout to immediately, but is this the only known fix?

It's just that the Galaxy S2 software is that you don't have to type the password again for flexibility, you should be able to change that in the settings.
