well I'm sure that many of you know that tethering is not allowed. while I was searching the web ON MY PHONE this page came up. This is f'n ridiculous they have come to this. I don't even have a tethering app installed.
As I've said earlier that this concerns me because metro's able to access this type of information

Wow, th:at just makes no sense.

I figure Metro is waiting on the latest lte updating and expanding in order to offer paid tether.

The 'real' unlimited they have now is their 'only' advantage over other carriers.

The second they cap or slow down(once paid tethering is in place) i'm out of here:

as i'd be able to get the latest n greatest model of my choosing at any major carrier, then port it over to prepaid subsidiary...to boot for a lower monthly price than Metro.
I'd have a much better phone than anything Metro could offer(yes, i'd pay the premium).

RIght now, a lot of us are putting up with inferior phones in exchange for real unlimited. Once that advantage is gone, why put up....

Whats weird is i tetherd a $1800 imac to my phone and it worked flawlessly i even tethered a hp laptop and it worked now my home pc i have to use a browser plugin called user agent changer in order to use my phone as a router. So what im trying to figure out is how are they filtering exactly what we use?

I know its possible but metro has been monitoring their customers phones. Alot of the users forget to turn on access control which won't notify them when someone connects the "secure" connection.

Heres an example. The MAC address on top connects automatically even though it is never authorized to do so. My guess is that its metro or someone connected to them that directs the device connected to the phone to block the phones connection

I know about the access control and i have it turned off just some computers metro tether blocks they must be working hard to filter others till then ill keep changing user agents lol

If you don't have access control on then I would definitely turn it on

I would turn it on if i tethered alot seems the only time i tether is when im on the road and nowhere near a wifi hotspot and its usally quick either to download an email attachment to a laptop or let a friend use my wifi hotspot to check his email on his laptop.

if metro becomes any worse then I recommend switching over to tmobile. 60$ , 70$ unlimited...but throttle to 3g speeds nd below after limit..and then there's sprint at 100$-plus, which Is for the rich man.

is it possible.to flash the esteem or any metro.phone over to t-mobile?

If you're tethering don't use internet explorer, use chrome or Firefox or safari ;) just a hint/tip.

bad hint ive been using internet explorer....... and even as im typing this im tethering on internet explorer....

T-mobile phones are gsm and metro phones are cdma these 2 technologies are not compatable since T-mobile uses a simcard and metro Lte phones uses a uicc card for the 4g which are not the same.

When I was with T-Mobile (prepaid 4G) sometimes when I'd use Internet Explorer I would get a "tethering not allowed" page which redirected me to add the tethering feature to my plan. When I used a different browser like Chrome or Safari it worked fine. I used to use my T-Mobile 4G prepaid phone as my only source of internet for a couple months, streaming Netflix and doing work from my device. The only downside is even when plugged in, the phone would only last about 3-5 hours tethering with heavy usage before it was completely dead.
