Help Long message notifications

When my wife receives a text message on her Nokia phone the notification sound starts "softly" then ramps up over a long time; I guess a minute. This gives her a chance to hear when the phone is not in the same room or something loud is on the tv.

When I get a text message all I get is a short notification. How can I get a similar sound notification to my wife's?

How do I do that?

All I can find are Notification Sounds > Default ringtone, Ascend, Bubble etc
but no custom sound.

There are a couple of ways of doing it, but I found the easiest was to install Ringdroid from the market and use that.

It allows you to pick any sound on your device and clip it to any length you want before assigning it to your notifications or as a ringtone etc.

Installed Ringdroid and now have 56 seconds of notification on my Desire. But when I receive a text I get, say, second of sound before the visual pop up appears on my home screen and the sound is cut off.

How so I get the full 56 seconds of sound, or until I press message widget and the visual pop up?

Any help appreciated.
