Get to change my trucks plugs. Who wants to do them for me? Please will someone do them for me? Lol

At least this time the parts guy didn't argue with me that my truck has spark plug wires. That was fun and almost made a bet for free plugs if I could prove it doesnt. Then the manager came over and said don't make that Bet as you will lose.

I hope this improves my gas mileage.

Your truck should be a walk in the park. Try changing them in an old Ford 150 Econoline Van sometime.... I think it was a 79. I bet the engineers are still laughing about what they did to poor Mr. consumer.

Try a 91 ford ranger 4 Banger. 8 plugs total and the 4 on the drivers side they put the intake manifold over the plugs. So first time I did them took me 3 hrs.

This truck one spark plug is a pain as it goes under the lip where the hood meets the lip where the wipers are. Otherthan that its easy.

Well beings none of you fine folks would help a feller out. I changed them this morning. All I can say is this engine is hell on plugs. Had a good set of iridiums in and tore them up good. So went back to copper cores as they are cheaper beings it looks like no matter what I use will have to change more frequently.

Oh I would of bought dinner (if you was a cute girl :D) if you changes my plugs lol.

I know better than to dabble in matters of which I have no knowledge. I'd be paying someone to do that kind of work and they'd see me coming a mile away with the Rube look plastered all over my face. I hate going to auto repair shops. I'm jealous that you have the ability to do it yourself.

Lol... Working on cars is way easier than one might suspect. Read up on it, and go to town. Changing plugs is a simple task once you understand what is going on. I swapped my plugs, coil packs, diverter valve (stupid VW stuff) twice today in under an hour. And if I had to take it to a shop, it probably would have cost 300 for labor + 200 for parts. I did it all for 100.

I will say depends on the car. I know my wife's Malibu v6 you have to losen the motor mounts and tilt the engine fwd to get the back plugs. Plus plugs you can strip or cross thread or on aluminium heads tear the threads out when taking out the plugs. Had a few friends that did that.

Most general maintenance is easy to do. I take my throttle body off and give it a good cleaning every 6 months. Only thing I don't do is my tranny as no drain plug and don't want to make a big mess taking the pan off. Damn dodge lol.

To A I have many friends like you that don't know how to do stuff like that. They say can you help me which translate to can you do the work while I watch lol. Just buy dinner and don't have a problem doing it.

But just like with flashing roms I am not liable for any damages don't to your vehicle from the work I do lol

Totally depends on the car... I know what I can and can't do, and only buy ones I know how to work on. was why I asked if you had a 5.4 Ford lol.... They are miserable to change plugs in...

I had a car once where the battery died. My dad and I thought we could replace it easily. We had to take out a bracket over the windshield wiper reservoir, the windshield wiper reservoir and another bracket just to get to the dang thing. Then we somehow jacked up the radio in the process. Couldn't get the security on it to work.

I recently tried to rotate my tires on my own. Completely jacked up the alignment. I suck with mechanical stuff.

Be glad you don't own a dodge intrepid. To change the battery you have to take the driver side tire off to get to the compartment.

I haven't ever done any maintenance on a vehicle other than an oil change. I am going to start now though. I am looking forward to getting into my jeep and tweak the way some of the wiring for the lights, etc is done. I am going to start doing a lot of my own maintenance now, I think it will be enjoyable to learn.

It's satisfying to be able to fix your own vehicle. And as a by-product you get to save money. The sense of accomplishment is great too....

The great thing about Jeeps is there is a huge community out there you can ask for help if you run into trouble.

This is so true about feeling great doing your own work. To walk in as a conquering hero look at your wife and say I fix the car and she looks at you funny.

I do my own brakes, oil, basically everything short of a rebuild. I don't like trusting others to work on my car.

Just find a good forum for your vehicle just like this forum for our phones and you can't go wrong.

Will say get a dealers fms manual. Might cost some money but it will have everything on your vehicle. Goes in depth and what the techs use in the dealerships.

If anyone needs one for a 03 Dakota let me know and I will try to upload to dropbox for y'all. You can find people that will have these for free. Really any questions on 00 to 04 Dakotas I can try and help you like how to bring up cel light codes and what they mean.

I know, I've already joined wranglerforum.com and a local jeep group here. The Jeep enthusiast community is just like the Android enthusiast community, everyone is helpful and friendly.

I do my own everything. Mechanical stuff like this is way easier than all this technical phone stuff lol. By the way, do you know why it says resistor type spark plugs?

I agree with this, but you have no idea how mechanically inept I am. My garbage disposal died a month ago. No problem. I can replace a garbage disposal myself I said. I went on Amazon, looked at reviews and bought one that looked to be high quality and that many users said they were able to put in in about 30 mins or less. A couple of people mentioned that it took an hour tops. So I was thrilled. I crawled around under the sink and unplugged the power plug. Then I twisted the one one and it came right off the sink. I was happy. Three hours later I was swearing and cursing in English, Spanish, Klingon and every other language I could think of and making up swear words in all of them. I was pissed as I could not get the new garbage disposal put in no matter what I did. My dogs looked at me with pity. I finally got it on, but screwed it up somehow because as soon as I turned on the sink, it leaked like a sieve so I had to tear it all apart and spend another hour getting it back together. Ended up being a four hour project from top to bottom. I am so mechanically inept it is way better for my mental health to pay someone to do stuff for me. I may have the knowledge to do something mechanical, but I lack the aptitude to actually do it.

I am really mechanically and electrically skilled. I have always just chosen to pay someone to do things because I could afford it. Now I want to do my own maintenance on my Jeep and do all of my modifications myself for a sense of pride and also to save some money.

When I do have money to start making some modifications after the summer the more I do myself the more money I will have left to buy more stuff for modifications

No matter what first time doing something takes longer. Plus reviews this people could be plumbers or just lied about how long.

First time changing the plugs in my ford ranger took 4 hrs. Stuff like this doing over and over becomes second nature really quick. Just don't fear the work as that's where screw ups happen.

^^^ that made me laugh. I can usually fix stuff, but sometimes it just doesn't go according to plan
Edit: damn phone, this was meant for the garbage disposal story:D

Fair enough. I know people think and understand things differently. I've no patience for book work, studying something i'm not completely enthralled with is an exercise in futility. I'm a hands on, tear it apart and put it back together person.

My problem is I never fear the work. I look on the 'net, watch a few Youtube videos, read a how to article or two and become convinced I can do the job in no time. Hours later I'm stuck with something that's still broken and a pile of hardware sitting next to it.
